Very down-to-detail textbook for semiconductor devices

If you are looking for just an semiconductor device book from engineering point of view, this book is littlbe bit difficult. However, if you really want to dig how each equations in conventional engineering semiconductor book is derived, this is THE book you are looking for. This is book is very much physics-oriented although it has big portion on device physics. Half of the book is dedicated to quantum mechanics, statistical physics, which is necessary for understanding carrier distribution, Fermi-Dirac equation, bandgap, density of states, etc. Please do NOT worried about the physics, the derivation is very detailed and easy to follow. This is a self-containing textbook. You can get all the physics background needed for understanding device physics. Although the first half on physics is tough but it is really rewarding. Read them carefully and you will feel very easy to handle the following device physics part. This book also including some semiconductor optoelectronic device physics. Some of the topics can only be found in this book such as avalanche photodetector impact ionization theory, etc.

Starting with basics and going into detail about the concepts of semiconductor physics this book is really good for all device engineers.

very readable text as well as a reference book

this is a very readable book on semiconductor devices that operate on quantum principles. the book starts with Schrodinger's equations, discusses in detail the different perspectives of the particle in a box problem, then gradually develops to other theories, for example the Boltzmann transport equations. other processes (impact ionization) are also covered in detail. ofcourse optical processes are not discussed as this is only a device-level book. suitable for electrical engineers to learn the basic underlying concepts that dominate the present day state-of-the-art devices.
