Simple tool for locating and testing irrigation valves
Very easy to hook up and chatter valves to locate them. So, I give it 5 stars. I located 6 zones in about 10 minutes, after removing the controller cover. My valves were all under the round valve covers. However, some cheap installer put 1-2 valves beneath a cover and they were covered in dirt. It was easy to hear a solenoid picking but when I had 2 valves inside the cover I had to use an insulated screw driver to feel the chatter, by placing the screwdriver against the solenoid and feeling the vibrations. Very easily done. Not a problem with the Armada tool. The tool works perfectly. Rather, I have a cheapo installation of a problem I need to clean up.Nice tool.

Works as advertised. Great product.
Worked like a charm!I've been looking in vain for two sprinkler valves for 19 years. The clapper feature zoned me in on them. They were in a valve box surrounded by heavy shrubbery, under a layer of leaves, covered by weed barrier fabric, and buried under six inches of dirt. I had to crawl to pinpoint the valve box with a screwdriver, but it was right where I could hear the solenoid snapping. It's also great to diagnose faulty solenoids at the sprinkler controller.

Worked great!
We recently bought a home with a sprinkler system. We could not find the valve boxes anywhere. The original owner had added quite a bit of topsoil and rock to the yard, and had covered them up. We took a chance and bought this device and are so happy we did! We found the valve box covers about 8" below the surface, the valves approximately 18" below the surface. The sound was faint that far down, but we were able to find them. We are very happy with this purchase!

Don't buy for the chatter feature.
Purchased this after working on a sprinkler system where the valves were buried and hard to find. Thought the chatter function would be useful in locating the solenoid valves since I located the ones on the previous job using a 18 volt Makita battery and just kept touching wires to turn on and off which made the valve vibrate very loudly. With this device i couldn't hear anything unless i took off the valve box cover and put my ear close to the valve. Kind of useless when you don't know where the valve is. The signal part works ok but there are better locators in the same price range or just a little more.

Finding valves requires patience and good hearing.
Bought this to locate a buried sprinkler valve. Instructions were easy to follow, but the "chattering" (more like a quiet clicking) was hard to locate. After a couple of tries, I went out early in the morning before the neighborhood got too noisy. I finally heard clicking that seemed to be coming from a 4x4 foot area -- couldn't pinpoint it any more precisely than that, but with a little digging, I found the box cover under about 3 inches of grass. If you're having trouble hearing the clicking, be patient. You might need to crawl around on hands and knees and it might help to have someone with a pair of youthful ears to help. Wonder if I could train a dog to do this?

Great addition to any irrigation toolbox
It does what it says it will do. The instructions (and videos online) are straightforward and easy to understand. The tracing tone feature works great for identifying single conductors, but you have to have a probe, as none is included. I have a tone and probe kit for electrical work, but this unit generates a much stronger tone. I use this to generate the tone and the probe from the other tester to sniff. If you're responsible for an irrigation system, this is a must-have.

Life saver!
I replaced a twelve zone timer box with a newer digital model. This tool took the guess work out of hooking up the zones identically as the old box. The product worked just as described. It's well made and overall a very good purchase when you consider I was able to do the work myself and not having to hire it out. I'm sure this testing device will come in handy down the road.
