Useful programming guide
Not enough detail on getting the libraries downloaded to the pico. The author thinks it is easy, I have problems as a beginner.

Good, but...
Very good book for the beginner writing python on the raspberry pi pico, but, would be better with a few motor examples as well (i.e. DC and Stepper motors).

Good for Beginners
Arrived on time. Good introduction to basic electronics.

An excellent summary of the microPython language
I have several books on computer science written by Mr. Monk and he does not disappoint with this one.Clear and well written with many helpful examples.

Torn between 3* or 4*
The book is definitely for "beginners" in hobby electronics and programming on microcontrollers. However, I'd recommend some intermediate experience with Windows or Mac or Linux (e.g., an RPi SBC): you will need to install programs, attach peripherals and have some basic knowledge of electricity/electronics. I found the book lacking in basic fundamental explanations of the programming principals. The diagrams and pictures are not clear. For example, the book covers (very briefly) multithreaded and object-oriented programming. While I appreciated the (necessarily overly cursory) introduction to the material, I can't say I learned nearly enough to use it on my own. Much more could have been said to explain, for example (but not limited to), GPIO (esp., analog I/O, interrupt triggers) and i2c. An appendix with a list of URLs mentioned in the book would have been very useful. Typical of engineers, examples are thought to be explanations.I would also like to challenge the author to a debate on his theory that, "One way to think of programs is as virtual models of the real world, that you can experiment with." Set-theoretic recursive functions are not "virtual models". And one is hardly "experimenting" with mathematical concepts.

Informative, fun, and practical!
Finally, the book, Programming the Pico has arrived. I am on page 56; the Morse code program is a good use of the MicroPython's dictionaries. I strongly recommend this book for all RP Pico fans. It is informative, fun, and practical.
