Bovine Collagen

I've been testing out different brands of collagen peptides. So far I've tried Dr. Matthew, Great Lakes Wellness, Doctor's Best, and this Aspen Naturals. Dr. Matthew, Great Lakes, and this Aspen Naturals all seem close in terms of purity, taste, potency, and mixability. The Dr. Matthew and Great Lakes were the best, but they are significantly more expensive than the Aspen. The Doctor's Best collagen peptide powder was awful, and gave off a really disgusting "farm manure" smell when mixed with water. I made a spreadsheet calculating the costs of various collagen peptide brands, and at the time of this review, Aspen Naturals was significantly cheaper than almost all other brands, especially when you get the 5lb bag. It's extremely impressive that they're able to deliver this level of quality at this price point. Aspen Naturals will be my go-to collagen peptide brand for the foreseeable future.

High quality, USA-sourced collagen powder. All of the other brands I've tried have been pastured cows from South American countries, so it was nice to see a "local" option. Other than the packaging, this collagen is the best I've experienced. Blends extremely well in my morning coffee. The suggested serving size of two tablespoons is definitely noticeable (taste-wise) in my coffee, although not an unpleasant taste, but noticeable minerality and a slight saltiness. I cut it down to a heaping tablespoon and there is no taste now. I'm not using this collagen for a specific ailment/injury/etc, so I cannot speak to it's assistance in repairing and curing, but as a prophylactic supplement it's incredibly easy to use and knowing the benefits of collagen in general, I know it's helping. As for the packaging, it's not really that big of a deal. So what if it doesn't close back up, just fold it up and slap a clip on it. I agree it's less convenient than a plastic tub, but less convenient is ALL it is. It will not affect the quality of the product unless you live outside in a tent, and you put it out in the rain for fun. Often people only seek out supplements when there is already an issue, or they have done damage by overwork. I would highly recommend taking this daily, on a lower dosage than suggested, in order to maintain a level of health that will ultimately help you avoid injury. This way, the bag will last you twice as long, and your body as well as your wallet will be happy. I wanted to also mention that the company sent me a follow-up e-mail after purchase which read: "By the way, our label printer made an error, so you'll notice the package shows a weight of 24 oz. The correct product weight is 21 oz, as it is listed on the Amazon product detail page. Just wanted to let you know so you didn't think we shorted you!"

This seems to be high in quality and I have been adding it to my morning coffee. It is tasteless and therefore does not affect the coffee's flavor. At this point I have only been using it for about 10 days. I bought it in hopes of keeping my skin younger looking. Of course, an outcome like that is something that is very hard to evaluate. Certainly, daily ingestion of this collagen would need to occur over a period of time for me to be able to ascertain if it works for that purpose or not. However, this protein is still good and nutritious for my body, regardless of how it affects my skin. I have been reading that collagen is hard to get in a regular diet and the many benefits of collagen to health in the body. I will come back and add to this review at a later time if I find that it is working for my skin. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for marine collagen. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is a little hard to dissolve. Hot liquids will dissolve it with brisk stirring, which is why coffee is the perfect drink for this collagen. You can also dissolve it readily in simmering soups and stews. Cold liquids present a bit of a problem. If you try to stir it into milk or lemonade it clumps somewhat. However, I have added it to smoothies that I puree in the blender with no problem at all. So whether you are satisfied with this product will depend upon what you want to mix with it. I plan to buy this again when I run out. It is a bit pricey but I could not find any other brand of this quality for less anywhere. UPDATE 5/10/2017: I was going to re-order this but the price has DOUBLED since I order it in March. What?! Same stuff, twice the price. No thanks. I'll see what else I can find.

I’ve been a hairstylist for almost 12 years. I’ve tried so many things out of continuing education classes/certifications and my own curiosity. I enjoy both haircare and skincare. I’ve tried several brands, powders, gummies, and “vitamins” at first I loved the one from target (vital proteins) but now Aspen Naturals is my #1. I wish I would have double checked before writing this review but if I recall right, it’s 3rd party tested (double check yourself) Take the time to read about the company and everything behind the story of how it’s created, that’s what sold me. After using this over a year, stopping after a big move I can tell a difference in how much faster my hair & nails grew along with how healthy my skin looked. The price is expensive but worth it (imo) when you get the bigger bag option. You can stop all the other hair supplements (unless dermatologist told you otherwise) and just use this is your coffee or smoothies. Couldn’t recommend this more. Posted a picture, but also want to put I also use professional products, along with deep conditioning my hair, etc.

Collagen is flavorless, mixes easily into smoothies, coffee, whatever you wish. Pkging of product itself was fine. However, shipping was "iffy" - sent in just a thin, plastic mailer. Pkg was torn open, contents spilled in envelope. A sticky mess to clean up... grrrr...... I'd purchase again but hope Amazon would pack this item better? Overall - a decent collagen that is easy to ingest (no aftertaste, either) and not unreasonably priced compared to other brands.

I personally RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT !!!, .. I started with "Bovine Collagen Peptides", I choosed the best in it's class, it had a a very low price compared with Aspen, very good product, good price and benefits, BUT it's taste was A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !!!, it's bovine skin taste couldn't be covered with anything at all, THIS PRODUCT "Marine Collagen Peptides from ASPEN" It doesn't have any taste at all, and mix very well in hot liquids (you better shake it to mix it well), I have mixed in hot milk, water and chocolate, and It mix very well ! I have 2 months taking it and I have seen that skin from my face is softer that before. It's not an inexpensive product but its reliable to achive better skin health. I will buy again the same product.

I've started collagen supplements within the last year, and started with You Theory's Costco size bottle. I couldn't take down all 6 tablets at once, and only did half-doses daily. I switched to NeoCell Super Collagen Powder Type 1 & 3 because they were on sale one day, but I ran out. I liked the powder version, so I started searching for a new powder to replace mine. I decided to try Aspen Naturals, as it was the best value for my money, and it came in a powdered form from U.S. cows. I usually mix it in my coffee with a battery-powered frothing stick (the $1.50 ones from IKEA), and it blends quickly and smoothly into my coffee, adding 11 grams of protein, and making my skin noticeably more elastic by the end of the day. I love coffee, but as a diuretic, it can be really dehydrating to my skin. I also have to mention that I have heard that taking vitamin C with collagen would enhance its absorption into your body. I have been adding vitamin C-ester into my morning routine as well, and that could also be affecting my results with this product. However, I have also taken vitamin C-ester supplements along with the two previous collagen brands I have tried, with less noticeable (but still noticeable) results. I'm very happy with this product. My only complaints about the product has to do with its packaging. As the powder is very fine, the "dust" has settled into the zipper closure, and it no longer closes, so I must clip the bag closed. I do have some old empty protein powder containers laying around, but I'm afraid of losing any product in a dust storm, should I try to transfer it into the new jar. If I may suggest to the company, I have seen a company called Bodylogix use pressed recycled paper/sugarcane/wheat or bullrush fibers formed into a jar w/ a screwtop. (Looks just like other protein powder jars.) Inside, there is a bag that is held open at the opening of the jar. You get your powder, you preserve its integrity, you use less plastic, and use renewable resources.

This is a wonderful product. I use two T. in coffee first thing each morning. I use a small wire wisk to dissolve the MCP. Most times, it dissolves readily, I just have to remember to use the wisk quickly or it begins to clump a little. I was using ProCaps Lab MCP, but found this to be equal in quality at a much better price. I do wish it would come in a plastic bottle with a screw-top, and perhaps a small scoop for the exact amount. I do not detect any change in the taste of my bold roast coffee when two T are added. I use this to maintain healthy joints, and skin primarily, and feel that 2 T is the best amount. I will only consume the marine source of collagen and much prefer this to huge tablet.
