There is always a battle between good and evil
Michael G. Manning is an amazingly talented writer. There is always a battle between good and evil, but Michael expertly proves that sometimes it is necessary to make a good person evil to defeat evil. Then the real battle begins, the inner battle with that character to face what they have become and choose between remaining evil, or turning back with the memories they will be forced to live with. He consistently builds strong characters and thrilling story lines that doesn't release you until the very last page. Most writers story lines by now, have weakened and lost your attention. Michael ramps up the action in every book and leaves you craving the next one.

extremely enjoyable
I really enjoyed this book and all the previous titles by Michael G Manning. The book does a great job of sucking you in I dived into this book like a dieter at a buffet. Some good points and some bad but over all a fun book that will keep you going back to it after every distractionGood:-Strong female protagonist. Takes the lead and runs with it.-action and soon into reading it. the pace is quick and fun with little of the normal early chapters build up- new enemy with a new twist i like how we pull in old and new and try's to break with tradition on this one.-great lead in to the next book I was wondering how the would fit together now that the kids are older-plenty of pleasant surprises don't want to spoil them read for yourselfBad:- Grace is a little lack luster she is kind of flat in this book her charming personality really wasn't there.- Morira Can go from bad to the bone kicking but taking names to cookie cutter traditional female in this story and it can leave your head spinning . one point she is having lustful thoughts of her own and like a few pages later she is appalled by others lustful thoughts. majority of 20 somethings girls are pervs and its ok.- the worse part is i have to wait till winter for the next book and prob next spring for the next installment for this series. In short get this book read it you wont be disappointed. unless you haven't read any of the earlier book then you should read those tooIn short Michael Manning great job keep up the good work. and bring back Graces charm and whit she really was the hero in Thornbear.

Another great book!
I have been a fan of Michael G Manning's work from his first book in the Mageborn Series, and once again he has served us an incredible tale. Mort's oldest daughter, Moira, is the focus of this book and boy has she grown up! A woman of great power and will, Moira sets out to find her father and before long....well, you need to read the book. You won't be disappointed! Michael has written a fascinating story with many dark twists and turns that has left me eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series!

I was glad to have found this one
I continue to read Michael Manning's books. I got hooked with the first series Mageborn, and have continued to read through the Embers of Illeniel and Champions of the Dawning Dragons. The first time I read one of his books I was searching Kindle for a new author to try out. I was glad to have found this one. There are times when I want to say "give me a break", that many bad things can't happen to one person. There is a lot of violence and some language(mild by today's standards). What I do like is that no matter how bleak the situation may seem, it also seems like an element of hope is injected into the plot. The magic follows consistent rules, and the characters are well-developed in my opinion. I will read more of these books as they are published.

Well worth reading
I first picked up Michael Manning's books as a random pick from Amazon. I'd never heard anything about him. Now, he would have to be one of my favourite authors. In my constant quest to fill reading time between waiting for favourite authors to get their next book released I have read a lot of not so good books. I don't often review books unless they are worth it. This series definitely is. Mr Manning tells an excellent story with wonderful characters and has well and truly earned his place on my bookshelf. I am avidly looking forward to the next instalment.

a demon in disguise
Moira, Matthew and their friends are struggling to find their father. Matthew stays behind near the cave where Alyssa was last seen to work some magic, sending the others on to Dunbar. hoping for help from the king, Moors makes her way into the throne room. and it is there that her Centyr blood awakens as she tries to save an entire city with just a touch of aythar.Michael promised and more than delivered. the Count's children and friends have powers unsuspected and with magic so much more common place, Michael is allowing these characters to shine without forgetting any of the original premises. eagerly awaiting book three!!!

Michael is an amazing author and I literally can't wait for the nexts books to come out. As a longtime fantasy reader who was an obsessed Harry Potter fan and then Eragon, I can honestly say this is my favorite author for sure. If you like authors like him, check out Terry Mancour, who writes my SECOND favorite series. This is the only series that goes beyond 7 or so books that I think it only gets better and not repetitive. Worth every second of reading(and re reading)

Amazing, just as I've come to expect from him!
As usual, he didn't fail me in his newest book! I love it just as much as all past titles. After a long anticipated wait, I finished this book in less than 15 hours, and that was with a four year old dividing my attention! This one focuses primarily on Moira, and her abilities. It takes place where Thornbear left off, and from what I can tell the next in the series will focus on Matthew. Needless to say, I am left wanting more.

5* plus!
Michael Manning is a master when it comes to manipulating the reader's emotions. He takes a well-loved character, who we've come to view as rather sweet, charming and sensible, and leads her into becoming a very dark, dangerous, and destructive force, while still engaging our empathy for her. I wanted to hate Moira, the Centyr protagonist of the title, and many times I was aghast at her actions/reactions to events. The sweet girl has grown up, and her abilities have grown too, but she's no Fluff and Fairies magician, that's for sure. Events outwith her control have shaped her, sharpened her, and wakened a Terrible power to wreak chaos on her quest. I have to admit MgM's ability to leave me with more questions than answers meant I was very upset when I reached the final page, horrified at the lengths Mordecai and Moira will go to for the protection of family and friends. Horrified, but still empathic and sympathetic, even though it looks as though boundaries have been overstepped. I will have to wait impatiently for the next in this series to get answers. Go, MgM, but gently please. My nerves are jangling!

Excellent read, craving the next one already!
Spoiler free; This book definitely lived up to and exceeded expectations. As always Manning has delivered an amazing read. Adding dark twists to the main characters which makes them feel, to me anyway, far richer and more relatable/realistic. I love how he keeps making the characters stronger, better or more awe inspiring than the last but in new and interesting ways rather than the typical more power kind of way. The twists are great and unexpected for the most part, nothing is unreasonable or leaves you feeling jolted out of the world. And to top things off, his world building is really enjoyable, the history and law is well established and well thought-out but there's plenty left to be revealed it seems and I'm always left longing for the next revelation. It also helps that I love these dark, slightly psychotic, sociopathic or harsher twists to numerous of the characters personas.Defiantly one of my favourite authors and series. Whenever I recommend this to a friend, which is often, I always describe it as my ideal story, exactly the kind of world and characters I'd write about if I had the talent.

Unexpected and spectacular!
I was wondering how this tale would develop, and normally I'm pretty accurate at 'what comes next.'Well this floored me, took me by surprise and I loved every minute of it. It's one of those 'keep you up all night, can't put down' books. The character development is unique and exceptional, following in the authors theme of exploring the not necessarily nice and good side of his characters. If you want a standard paragon knight in shining armour type of lead character, this may not be a read for you, but you should read it anyway, if you want interesting and captivating characters that carry the weight of their choices, the 'buy' button is up there ^^^Amazing!

MGM never fails to disappoint, and this (Long awaited) sequel to the Champions ...
MGM never fails to disappoint, and this (Long awaited) sequel to the Champions of the Dawning Dragons series has been well worth the wait. The wonderful storytelling, crossed with the authors unique style of humour brings his characters to life in a way that feels like you're reading about old friends. There is genuine fear when a character is in jeopardy, and the simple honesty behind the characters emotions run away with you, I'm yet to finish a book without tears at some point. The greatest feat, perhaps is that he writes the characters as flawed, as humans. The heroes are as dark as they are good, struggling with their own internal conflicts and conscience, and that is what makes them relatable, even in a world with magic and dragons.Thank you for the stunning read MGM, and here's hoping for many more.

Brilliant as usual
You've done it again Michael, another book I had to stay up all night to finish.......then realized I now have to wait an enormous amount of time for the next (well it'll feel that way) Please God don't let me die till after the third book in this series...... Loved it loved the characters new and old and the way your story telling is up there with, in my eyes David Eddings and Anne McCaffrey, I love the humour that runs through your books and the spells you weave even Mordecai would be proud to own xx
