Drop Spindle Top Whorl Hand Carved Includes 4 oz Premium Natural White Wool Combed Top Roving Gift Bundle

This is not a fancy drop spindle, but is well constructed and serves my purpose as a beginner very well. Great price, too.

Well made, easy to use, and great price. This is a well balanced and fun spindle.

The item I ordered and paid for "Includes 4 oz Premium Natural White Wool Combed Top Roving Gift Bundle". It also states that it's hand carved, and includes instructions. What I got for my $25 was a paper envelope with ... a poorly made spindle. No roving, no instructions. From the pictures I was expecting a simple, finished spindle. Nothing fancy. From the pictures, I could see it was "hand carved" by a person with a couple of machines, but whatever. Still made by a person, someone who crafts thing by hand, right? The spindle I received was raw wood, not finished like the one in the ad pictures. The top and bottom of the shaft are sloppily rounded, not properly sanded, and the edges of the whorl are also not rounded like in the picture.Even if the promised four ounces of roving had been included, roving runs about $25-$28 a pound. They would pretty much need to be paying their labor $50 an hour to justify the price. Personally, I'd fire anyone I was paying more than $15 an hour if they turned out work like this. Because it's not finished or rounded, the edges are nicked along the grain, and there are small splinters. I don't know for sure that the nicks would catch on the roving and get worse, but it's certainly not going to do it any favors.Delivery was expected to be slow, but again, I was willing to accept that from a small business, even though I've been dying to try a top whorl spindle. And of course it's not their fault that the post office told me it would be delivered "today" for two days before it was actually delivered. But now, after waiting two weeks to receive it, I have to waste more time returning and replacing it. And I can't just get a return and refund from Amazon, I have to contact the seller and wait for them to decide if they want to accept their garbage back.If the product was anywhere close to the (already minimal) quality advertised, I'd keep it if they were willing to send some extra roving or something to make up for the inconvenience. It's nowhere near as well made as even the VERY simple spindle I was led to expect. Compare the pictures above to the ad pictures. I just don't understand why they have so many high reviews!

Takes a little practice, but works great

Mmm this was a nice concept item but I have a feeling it should be weighted differently. It was very difficult to get it to spin the fiber well enough. I ended up just getting a full spinning wheel. It was nice that it came with sample fiber to play with but the fiber is a bit course.

The listing said it came with white wool roving. I received beige and burgundy,no white. nothing about The origins of the wool,but it is not at all as stated it would be.The spindle is ok,the simplest I have seen,but acceptable for beginners. No instructions or printed material of any kind were included.
