The Chariot are no longer the new kids on the block. What began, in the minds of most of the hardcore and metal underground, as the highly buzzed about reemergence of original Norma Jean singer Josh Scogin has since become a behemoth of its own distinction. Two years of touring behind the raw, unhinged and powerful bombast off Everything is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is Dead, Nothing is Bleeding and the follow-up EP, Unsung, have cemented the Southern quartets place in the modern metal landscape. We don't care if it is the popular thing to do or if it is going to make us money or any of that nonsense, we only write music that we can feel passionate about. Everything else has nothing to do with rock and roll. It's this renegade artistic spirit that continues to drive The Chariot forward. The Fiancee is the renegade spirit.

It wasn't as hardcore badass as the last album, but it still does the trick. The Chariot will always stay true to their amazing style, but I think they took a bit of a dip on this album. It's just slightly washed out to me, not as dynamic and nasty as they should be. The really amazing stuff is in their first EP, first LP and third LP.

Worth it just for the scream on track 4
One of the few new releases that is taking hardcore somewhere. Long gone are the days when hydrahead was cranking out albums from brand new bands like botch and cave in (circa ~98) while coalesce was melting faces with everything they touched. Now you have to look in other places for the freshies and the Fiancee fits the bill. If you like norma jean or apples get this one.

An Agressive Album that Packs Brass Knuckle Punches
I was so suprised when I stumbled upon "The Chariot" as the video for "They Drew Their Swords" was avaiable from Comcast Music Video on Demand. When I saw the video, I thought, what a different type of concept these guys are bringing to the table. Its almost like going back in time with the feel of Grundge, but 100x more Agressive. I didnt think I was going to like the album as much as I did, and I think that "The Chariot" should get props for doing something a bit diffrent in the music world. This isnt real complicated stuff, alot of distorted guitar, and agressive drumming (even hear a little bit of double bass thrown in)with some absolutly angry as hell vocals. I love it! Its like a combination of 90's Grunge, Metalcore, Garage Rock, and some elements of Death/Thrash Metal, all rolled up into one. Is it perfect, no, but its a helluva an effort, and even though its a bit on the short side, I think that you will like this album if you are a fan of any type of extreme music.

A Poignant Exercise in Artistic Brutality
Chaotic. Inspired. Dissonant. Spiritual. Heavy. Dopamine for the ears. All of these things describe "The Chariot" to a T with their latest release "The Fiancee." Keeping it real, unashamedly Christian and about as heavy and experimental as music gets, "The Chariot" outdoes themselves with the most artistically tasty and pleasing hardcore album I've heard since Underoath's latest offerings. If you like the more hardcore side of things (less metal, more dissonant techno/modern leanings) this is an album you will not only need to buy, but you will listen to until your ears bleed.Highly recommended.PSThis album is not only completely clean, it's flat reverent and worshipful. If you like Christian content in your music (no matter how brutal) this is a must listen.

better than Everything is alive~
the sound quality is higher, louder, and this definately is different than the previous release from the band. which i didn't care much for the album Everything is alive~ blah blah, long title for their last album, but anyway, the feedback seemed more or less accidental in that one, and was more annoying than actual useful. so i'm glad they changed how they did for The Fiancee, it finally seems like its further marking itself as unique, cuz aside from the excessive feedback on the previous release, i compared Everything is alive~ to early Norma jean's music.but pointless blabber aside, this album is primary good due to high musicianship and a very intense vocal performance by Josh.also, the heaviness is relaxed a few times on the album with some sort of audio sampling? i don't know, i remember hearing a harmonica at the end of either track 3 or 4 ^.-then there's like some sort of church choir on the last track The Trumpet ^.-very cute, makes it unique as an album, although a bit odd.bottom line, if you liked Josh in Norma jean, and/or both while in The Chariot, either way, this is then an album you would want.but to be specific, this does not sound like Bless the martyr, but Josh doesn't sound all that different ;p

LOUD AND PROUD
Another step up from The Chariot on this long player. Brave, brutal, slightly experimental yet with genuine class and clarity, you can make out what's being screamed/shouted by Josh Scogin which is always good - and if you're struggling then read the sleeve notes - they're an interesting read. The Chariot are unashamedly Christian men with a message for the listener and should be commended for not hiding who and what they are in the often pretend tough guy, posturing world of metal. It takes balls to go against the tide and these boys have that in abundance. A swaggering, screaming, crashing, jarring diamond of an album, long live The Chariot!
