Here is some history on the development of the US Air Force B-2 Stealth Bomber. The search for the Advanced Technology Bomber began in 1979 were the competition was between Northrop/Boeing and Lockheed/Rockwell. This black project was known as the "Aurora" project. On 20 October, 1981 Lockheed/Rockwell was awarded the design and was named the B-2 "Spirit". On 17 December, 1993 the first B-2 Stealth Bomber known as the "Spirit of Missouri" was delivered to the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. In designing this unique 3 inch challenge coin we used the 509th Bomb Wing's official patch, 509th Operations Group's official patch and the 509th Bomb Wing's unofficial patch. Some members of the 509th Bomb Wing had an unofficial patch designed showcasing an Alien eating the B-2. "To Serve Man" refers to the Twilight Zone, and the inscription "Gustatus Similis Pullus" is latin for "Tastes Like Chicken".
