Hard plastic, great for my small 3 tier cake I made. Held up nicely. I do wish directions came with for the rods. The soft rods were easy to cut, the white ones were too hard to cut, but sturdy. Good quality for a great price. Not sure if replacement rods are available. Worked fantastic and held the cake up nicely for over 6 hours...(cut the cake at that time)

These are great for stacking a tiered cake they lock together for added stability really helps keep everything straight.

I have ordered this set twice for making wedding cakes. It has worked great and I would order it again. It's easy to assemble and the cakes are very sturdy.

The plates are sturdy and the hole in the middle of each plate was very useful for stabilizing. However none of the rods actually fit through the hole in the middle. I wound up having to cut one of the straws and glue it to make it small enough to work. Also it came with no instructions of any kind, but it worked with a little creativity. But I would not use it again. Also it states it was four tier but I only received three.
