Cool idea! This little nest guard is adorable - much cuter than the usual guards. It's heavy-duty resin and looks fairly realistic, with a 1 and 3/4" hole. I attached it to a mesquite tree, over a natural cavity that tufted titmice nest in every year. The natural cavity was a bit low to the ground (about 3 feet up) and also the hole was bigger than the titmice, so I always worried about predators getting into the nest - especially cats or blue jays. I received this nest guard in mid-April, the same week that I saw titmice start checking out the hole, so I installed it right away. Within half an hour, the birds were back, going in and out. The nest guard doesn't seem to bother them a bit; in fact it seems they like it. I went out of town for a week, and when I came back near the end of April, they had eggs in the nest (not sure how many.) For the last 10 days or so, the parents have been busy flying in and out with bugs, and I can hear a chorus of loud peeping inside the hole, so I think there are at least 4-5 babies, which should fledge any day now. (These are the black-crested tufted titmice by the way, which range from the San Antonio area down south into northern Mexico.) I am very happy with this product, and ordered a second one for another location.

I am disappointed
The design is initially appealing because it has the 'look' of a small tree branch; however, it allows a perch for the house sparrows, a very predatory small bird that takes over bluebird houses and is known to remove their eggs, kill both hatchlings and adults trapped in the box. I bought this and have discontinued it's use.

Great performance. A little pricy.
Installed this on a box a day after the bluebirds started incubating. Took them about 2 hours to figure out how to enter the hole, after that they acted like it's always been there. Keeps them safe from cats, opossums, squirrels and other critters. Don't have any English House Sparrows in the area so can't comment on that. Please note that this product will NOT protect against snakes (nor is it intended to). The price feels a bit high given the material of construction but then that's true for many specialized bird accessories.

They work!
This predator guard actually works! I’ve tried several and this is the only one so far that does what it should and resists the sharp teeth and claws of raccoons and such looking for a baby bird feast. The little wooden ones with the metal face don’t work at all, the coons just chew the wood away. I only gave four stars because these fade in colour over time. The ones installed last year have all gone a greyish colour, but that’s no big deal— they work!

Last year our houses did great without protectors
I bought two of these for our bluebird houses. Last year our houses did great without protectors, but this year three batches of baby birds were destroyed at just 3 days new each time. So sad! We bought these in June and within a day of putting in Momma and Daddy BB were back in house and started a nest. But being late in season they didn't finish it. We know that they will go In it though!! Fingers crossed for next spring!

Safe & the Birds like it
We have a nesting box the blue birds use & chase other species away from but last year a cat or raccoon got an arm in & killed mother Blue bird. We added this guard months before the nesting season & have had pairs checking out the nesting box.

Two fewer things for me to worry about.
I have 2 now, They pretty-up the bird housesI would have purchased more if the price was lower.I have 7 bluebird houses around my back yard and garden, and every one is occupied,My husband said they were simple to apply My other houses don't have safety entrances, and I worry about interlopers.I wish everyone would do a little something for our native wildlife.

not recommended by this bird landlord
I saw this contraption after I noticed we had bluebirds moving in and thought it would make the nest box safer. My bluebird couple who had been eyeing my nest box for a while had started building the nest. They cried when I put this thing on. It was the saddest thing. I took it off in 2 seconds. not recommended by this bird landlord. ty
