Excellent product
Compact toaster. Cuisinart products have always been reliable and this toaster works as it should. I definitely would recommend this item both for its cost and looks.

Never going back to a traditional toaster.
Being able to toast multiple items (even at different settings) is great. It is way more convenient. It is basically two toasters put together so it does draw more wattage. But the durability and value for money is great. It's pretty easy to clean as well.

Looks Nice and Works Well So Far
The toaster looks really nice on my counter, and I love the wide slots — they easily fit bagels, thicker bread, and regular toast without any issues. It toasts evenly and has a nice range of settings. My only complaint is the quality control. When it arrived, the left dial wasn’t installed correctly and was slightly popped out. I considered sending it back but decided to snap it back into place and test it first. It worked fine, so I kept it. It doesn’t feel particularly high-end, but since it’s a brand I generally trust, I’m willing to give it a fair chance and see how it holds up over time.

Works great
The Cuisinart CPT-142BK 4-Slice Compact Plastic Toaster is an excellent choice for anyone looking to streamline their breakfast routine without sacrificing performance. This toaster stands out with its sleek black design, making it a stylish addition to any kitchen countertop. One of its key features is the ability to toast four slices at once, which is a significant time-saver, especially during busy mornings or when entertaining guests. The compact size is a major plus, allowing it to fit neatly on smaller countertops without taking up too much space. The toaster offers a variety of browning settings, allowing users to achieve their preferred level of toastiness, from lightly golden to crispy brown. The wide slots accommodate thicker slices of bread, bagels, and even waffles, making it versatile for different breakfast options. The reheat and defrost functions are particularly handy, providing convenience for those who like to prep in advance. Clean-up is also straightforward, thanks to the removable crumb tray, which makes it easy to maintain and keep tidy. Overall, the Cuisinart CPT-142BK combines functionality, style, and ease of use, making it a solid investment for any breakfast lover.

Only 1” wide, not 1.5” as advertised.
This is a big disappointment but I didn’t even notice this before I had it too long to return it. The openings on top are exactly, if not a hair under, 1.5” wide by 5.25” long. That’s 1 and 1/2” wide by 5 and 1/4” long, for those that don’t do decimal. But you CANNOT get anything thicker than 1” between the wire brackets inside. They do not spread wider. I tried it. Several times. This is very disappointing because it was advertised as 1.5” wide. Thick Texas toast was one of the big reasons I bought it. I would not have bought it if I knew you can’t put anything over an inch thick in it. Even bagel halves are hard to cram into it and they are much firmer than Texas toast so there’s no need to try that. I’ve had a couple bagel halves that weren’t cut exactly in the middle and the thicker side wouldn’t fit into the toaster at all. Start off toasting sandwich bread on a low setting. The two on this one does what the three did on my old toaster. 3 and a half on this toaster burns sandwich bread black so I don’t know why the settings go to 7. Also, be sure to use the cancel button if you need to raise the toast before the timer is done. You might damage it if you try to raise it by the handle like all the toasters I’ve had before. This one takes more force to lock down than others I’ve had and I thought something was wrong with it when it wouldn’t stay down. I pushed down harder out of frustration and it locked. The cancel button pops it right up. I’m used to using it now and I don’t think a thing about it. Read all the instructions before using it because some settings don’t work the way you’d assume it would, like the bagel setting. There was a less expensive toaster that was advertised as 1.5” wide but I went with the Cuisinart brand because I thought it would be exactly as advertised. I was wrong. June 7th 2022. This piece of junk will be replaced in the near future. I only toast on the number one setting now because it takes so long to get that done. The bread comes out almost hot but no browning. False advertising and absolutely the worst toaster I’ve ever seen. We have toast at least once a day, almost every day. We’ve been married 51 years now and this is our third toaster, so that shows you what a piece of junk this is, and it’s not just a lemon, it was advertised as having 1 1/2” wide openings and toasting very quick. Absolutely false.

Wonderful Toaster
Was hesitant to buy a toaster because I have always had toaster ovens, but this thing doesn't disappoint!! It toasts great on 4 and the bagel setting is just right for bagels and english muffins!!

Still some disappointment but good customer service
UPDATE nearly two years later: Not willing to buy another toaster given the inconsistency of the bunch, I kept using this Cuisinart. However, I didn't pay attention to its three-year warranty until someone else mentioned it. I called the company and was very cheerfully sent a new replacement for no charge. Nice! The verdict on the replacement: so-so. The toasting is somewhat more even than before, but there are still times when identical bread slices sharing adjacent slots are toasted unevenly. A single slice put in the designated "one slice" slot will come out nicely toasted on one side and not very toasted on the other. The top-to-bottom evenness is considerably better than the first unit I bought, but the opposite sides of the same slice of bread or frozen waffle are not usually evenly done. I've found I should set the dial to half of what time is needed, let the toast pop up, then flip the items over for the second half of cooking time. So this is still a worse toaster than the previous T-Fal I had (and was discontinued), but it does the job with some extra work. I do thank Cuisinart for standing behind their product. Lots of good reviews here and elsewhere, so I had hoped for a more consistent toaster. I've had lots of variability between the different slots; with the same setting and the same bread, there is quite a bit of difference from left to right. The evenness of toasting within slots is also frequently uneven, as the lower part of bread gets much more done than the tops at times, or the left side of the bread is browned and the right side is not as much. Today I tried bagels for the first time: the bottom of one was dark brown, the top was lightly toasted. Overall, it's a barely adequate toaster and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.
