Sony HTA9: A user friendly easy to set up Atmos Home Cinema system that looks like no other system in the market with a total of 16 speakers created from four physical ones, virtually.(Warning! Long Read)Since this is an expensive product, I’ll give you my non-biased review, in case you are thinking of buying this and have to make an informed decision.This product is making waves in USA (I believe it has a waiting list there) but for some reason, not in India, unfortunately as most of us rely on “audio experts” for installation of sound equipment.And how will the “experts” sell their outdated equipment if they knew there is a hassle free installation that does not need any technical knowledge, in a short time and gives the best sound ever possible, with such little clutter?This is the best sound I have experienced, for watching Blu-rays and OTT platforms as you can also connect your Blu-Ray/DVD player ( with just one HDMI chord) to this setbox and which I believe is future-proof for at least a decade.It also saves you the bother of installing height speakers if you wish to go for an Atmos set-up.The wireless speakers work wonderfully well, with no drop-outs or delay which was a problem in earlier wireless sound-set up but Sony seems to have addressed this issue perfectly.I rarely get a sound delay or even a drop out (maybe once in two or three months) but in case you experience one, just go to “Easy” set up and configure the distance and sound optimization through the set-up itself, again, a procedure that should not take less more than 4 to 5 minutes and you are good to go.Indian films on OTT platforms sound amazing, especially the rear speakers where I was hearing sounds that I never heard before and I have to rewind and re-rewind just for the sound experience.Most sounds systems are reasonably effective in producing rear sounds but the sheer size of these rear speakers amplifies each and every sound in the back.I played the same films I had viewed before this installation and the audio was another level, enhancing the experience.I had an expensive (and a very effective) Sony 6.2 set up that played blu- rays extremely well.With the onslaught of OTT platform, I had to look for an alternative and after months of deciding, I singled out this system: the best decision I took.Previously, in the earlier systems, because of the sheer number of chords and wires, it was difficult to pinpoint as to where the problem was if any family member dislodged a wire, unintentionally or otherwise.The look is minimalist and gives the room a “neat” look which is contrary to most home theaters which are full of equipment and wires and what nots.It is unlike any system you have seen (and probably will not see for the next couple of years) and to dole out almost 1.75 lakhs (with the sub-woofer. I bought the smaller 200W unit bundled and am happy with it) for this may seem daunting but believe me, you will not regret your decision.When you place the order, download the manual from the web and just go through the settings (simple instructions) so you may start the process of installing immediately on arrival of the system rather than waiting for it on opening of your delivery.YouTube videos are also a great help.The Amazon-appointed Sony “technician” did not come in time (as I had a muhurat for setting up the system) and I decided to set up myself (based on the YouTube tutorials that I had viewed before) as I was eager to check it out.The easy set-up is just that, easy:Prime and Netflix will give great sound by default, Atmos, 5.1 or otherwise.I assume you are using a 4K TV in order to get the maximum potential out of the HTA9.What I suggest that depending on the sound output, you should change the settings for each viewing. If you can’t be bothered about changing the setting every time, just go for the following settings:1) Advanced settings-Audio2) DSEE settings: switch it off.3) Audio DRC: switch on auto4) Advance auto volume: switch it off.In Sound effects: By default leave the sound to Sound mode on which is Sony’s proprietary sound that works well for all sound modes, including old films with mono/stereo.However, if the film is in Dolby (this is mentioned in most movies in the details section while browsing) you have two options: Dolby Digital and Dolby Neural X. I suggest switch the effect to Dolby Neural X that has more depth and higher sounds in the rear speakers.If in doubt, leave the sound to sound mode on.At all times, leave Immersive sound on from the remote, along with cinema mode on always.For the other settings: In HDMI settings leave control for HDMI, standby linked to TV and Stand through to Auto.e-ARC should be on and video output to PIP/PBP to off.I would not suggest using the system for audio/music just use it as a dedicated movie unit and believe me, you will not miss going to the movies. If you wish to do so, switch over to the Music mode from the remote.For Sony Liv, Jio and Zee, Sound Mode on “on” will give best results as most films are in 5.1.For Netflix and Prime, Dolby Neural X is amazing.Before starting to view any film, try out both the sound (changing takes less than 2 minutes) for the same film so that you get the best sound experiencePlease note that at this is an independent unbiased ( and honest) review to help fellow customers for the purchase and I have no connection with Sony ( or Amazon for that matter) in any other capacity.

Stop worrying about the negative reviews. Half of the reviews don’t know how to actually use the product and half just using online references to pass comments. Zero drop out, crystal clear sound separation, convincing overhead sound ( not as good as dedicated speaker but on a scale of 10 achieves 5 while every other brand goes only to 3 ), phantom center channel is freakishly good i still can’t believe i am hearing the sound from pin point middle of the tv even though am using LG oled. Unless the proper contents are available the true potential of the system is not revealed. Watch transformers in non atmos format in Netflix and use immersive AI it will blow your mind how good the upscaling works. One advice go for the 300w base as the 200w is a bit boomy for me. I don’t prefer exceptionally low base like Samsung q990c . I haven’t heard a better refreshingly sounding sound system like this ever before that includes lg sq95r, q990b, sonos arc, bose 900. This system just outclasses all. But like apple vs android- sony will not allow you to change everything in the settings. So if you prefer flexibility in being allowed to set eq in your terms go for q990c (only recommended if you are well versed with sound limits and health consequences) . Personally I prefer this over Samsung anyday. Don’t buy this without a sub as it really makes the best impact.

Minblowing!!!. Setting up was so easy I just finished the setup with in 30 minutes. Immersive AE for live music are just outstanding. Even the youtube music live events are so immersive, I just forgot about time listening to music. And Cinema experiance just mindblowing experiance. I have Sony 65 OLED A80K as the center channel added advantange. 360 Sound Mapping just WOW!!!!

Sony HT-A9 impresses with its immersive soundstage and sleek design, elevating home entertainment. Installation was very quick, got it done on the same day as delivery.

Rear speakers are not working and no support from Sony. I am going to return the order.

Has been only 2 days but i am thoroughly impressed by the HT A9 . It was a breeze to initialise and works just as advertised, creating a sound bubble and immersing you in every scene.Simply amazing!!

Immersive AE option is best. The surround sound is better than any other speaker in market. I just love it.

After few days testing now i know everything about this product.this is 100% true review.i watch prime dolby atmos ,5.1movies same as Netflix content n even i watched apple tv movies which all are dolby atmos and dolby 5.1 movies.but totally disappointed. No height channel effect and not clear hd sound. Apple tv sound better but dolby atmos effects zero. Butt thannnI played bluray disc movie from bluray or ps5 and I watched movie. That time i can’t believe at that moment. Sound was unbelievable. Atmos effects was shockingly good.sound clarity unbelievable.soundbar system never ever give that quality result.So point is if you want to buy for netflix,prime etc online movie than dont but it.better buy cheaper soundbar system which has dolby atmos dta n all. Because online app’s content has low bit rate compressed movies and dolby atmos also compressed which is dolby digital plus. This compressed content does not justify this beautiful sound system.when you play bluray disc movie than you amaze by this sound system you never heard sound like this.because bluray disc has uncompressed movie and sound codec which is dolby true hd and dtx sound. That codec give you all kind of sound through this system. So you afford bluray player and bluray movie disc than this is for you otherwise dont buy it.
