Wonky app and failed idea...
From the videos it looked like it had some potential so I gave it a shot. Well, I struggled to get this product to connect. Poorly made app really ruins the products usefulness. In addition to that, a phone's camera is the only way to make it work. If you could have used it sans phone and/or had the phone in your hand and a small camera on the device the utility would have been greatly increased. When it does work the movement is jittery, with a phone you can see the motors vibrations and jittery movement in you videos. As it stands it quite niche for youtubers and vlog people who solely rely on there phones for video and don't seriously care about the quality of the video. JOBY needs to do better but that's actually par for the course for this company. Like many of there other products, this is made for the amateur ... very entry level and will quickly be relegated to a drawer, seldom used once you've "played" with it for awhile.

Doesn't really work with the GoPro.
This product was advertised to work with the GoPro series of cameras (not by Amazon). The app you use to control this doesn't really let you do much. When you press the play button, you start recording on your phone. As of the writing of this review, there are no ways to create any presets in the app, nor does it come with any presets. You can't attach this and the slider and expect them both to work at the same time because they don't.

Good at what it does, but it doesn't do much
I really like content creation tools that are good at 'multi-tasking'. This is not one of them. The JOBY Spin is good at what it does, but it doesn't do much. That is by design, which makes it hard to evaluate. It's very clear about what it does--and does not--do. It works for smartphones, but not cameras or action cams. Basically, it allows you to pan your smartphone created video. You control the movement with the JOBY app which might be the most inscrutable app I've ever encountered. You can set up a shot on the cellphone screen, hit 'Go' and it'll record it.That's it. You can connect two units for pan and tilt. The second unit is sold separately. Actually, everything is sold separately including the phone mount. True, most serious content creators have a bunch of them around but for a product at this point it's absurd not to include one. From a review standpoint, it does exactly what the product description says it will. For that reason, I can't mark it down too much just because it's pretty much useless for me. In a world of versatile and multi-functional content creation equipment this is a 'one trick pony'. If that's the 'trick' you need, this will do the job just fine.

Smooth panning, good app…limited utility by design
I like this for some smooth panning b-roll. For instance, while shooting a talking head, I had this running to the left of the main cam for some motion b-roll. It’s actually pretty great for this use. It’s tiny, you don’t need a rail system, and it works well. That said, it’s limited to smart phone use. I would love to put my normal small b cam on it, but that’s not possible.I like having this in my kit, but there’s room to make it even better.

Love it -
As a photographer, I usually only use big cameras on large sliders for timelapse. This teeny tiny tool allows me to leverage the 4K capability from the camera that I always carry (i.e. phone) and take hyperlapse videos at 4K resolution with motions built in, quitely. The app has some steep learning curves, once you go over it, it is actually a pretty intuitive and easy App to navigate. It handles timelapse and video amazingly well. It also takes panorama pictures, but this was a Beta version at the time of the review. I do see some vertical streaky lines from the panorama photos that I took indoor. Not sure if it was b/c of different exposures at different angles, or it was b/c of the glitches from picture stiching. It's just a Beta feature!

Wicked little rotating Tripod head for B-Roll Sequences
Positives:- Liked the smooth momentum the device has when rotating left or right.- It can rotate a full 360- It can take the weight of small mirrorless cameras as well as phones - for example, it was easily able to work with my Sony ZVe10 w/ Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens attached.- It can be controlled wirelessly but a phone app.- the phone app has lots of different rotation speeds and settingsNegatives:- You can ONLY control the device via the wireless phone app.- The controls to move the device can feel clunky if your phone is on the tripod alreadyWicked little device, however I feel like I've seen similar devices for roughly the same price.

Really intuitive for creating motion timelapses
I got sent this to review, it's a super portable rechargable panning base designed for phones (or very small cameras with a few drawbacks) to create timelapses. The pan base is well built, feels sturdy, and comes with a male 1/4 screw at the top for a phone holder or a camera, and female at the bottom for attaching to light stands or a tripod, or the base is flat for putting on a flat surface/table.There's a companion app for it too. The app is pretty well designed, it makes things very simple, with all the settings easily adjusted, so you can set your start and end points as well as your speed, and it records and saves the timelapse directly in the app. The drawback to this is as far as I can tell you don't have a choice of which camera to use (I have an iphone 13 pro so three cameras), but then it's rare you'd want to use the closeup one anyway so it's not a real drawback. The disadvantage to this approach is if you attach a separate camera to the panning base rather than a phone, the app isn't as useful as it's designed completely for using your phone for the timelapse. The other disadvantage is you can't use a third party timelapse app on your phone very easily either. So they made it simple to use but the sacrifice is that you can't so easily do more advanced things with it!But all in all, a great product, I use it consistently to get more dynamic BTS content on film shoots.

I had high hopes for this
I had high hopes for this, perhaps unrealistically so. I bought the Joby Swing to go with it, assuming that I'd be able to use them both together for some fancy two axis slider shots with the Swing taking care of side to side movement and the Spin... spinning. Well I was wrong. Despite being able to control two Spins so you can pan / tilt, it doesn't support a Slide and a Spin at the same time. To be fair no one told me it would work, it just seemed like a no brainer and I made an incorrect assumption. Maybe it's something they'll add to the app in the future. To further add to my disappointment the Swing didn't work properly and would only move an inch or so before refusing to go any futher. So I sent it back.Anyway I'm supposed to be reviewing the Spin here, and to be fair if you take it on its own merits it does do a reasonable job. It's quite smooth and you can definitely get some usable results with it. However I find the app controls (and you can ONLY control it with the app) to be fiddly, especially if your phone is mounted to the Spin.Joby's videos online say that for the best results you should use your phone's wide angle lens, but the app doesn't give me that option on my Android phone. It's the main rear camera or the front selfie camera and that's it. Maybe it would work better with an iPhone or a different Android phone.Despite all of the above, it's still a fun accessory that enables some shots that would otherwise be impossible so for that I do like it. But with all the niggles mentioned I think it'll only see limited use for me.

Impressive little device
JOBY’s spin Bluetooth electronic head can make your videos more alive by rotating your phone up to 360 degrees on any axis and creating a standout time-lapse and video. This spin is easy to use and has motion control technology that is ideal for creators who use their smartphones. It is preferably paired with the GripTight PRO mount and easily matched with your GorillaPod, HandyPod, TelePod or RangePod using the ¼"-20 mounting point. It is lightweight and is pocket-sized making it perfect for on the go creators. Moreover, it can be controlled by an app, so you need to download the JOBY Motion app. Just connect the spinner to your device’s Bluetooth and you can now create content that doesn't look like everyone else's. Take note that this one is also rechargeable via a USB-C cable and a power source and is not compatible with cameras or action cams.I like this spin better because it is very versatile and smaller than the swinger I recently tried out from this brand. The quality of this spin is excellent and it is more straightforward to use. This is really great for vlogging especially if you're a phone user and want to level up the quality and style of your videos.Overall, for £81.95 this is really a great investment. The quality and its purpose are amazing, so far I am very satisfied with this product.

Expensive, useless on its own without accessories
The media could not be loaded. A very good idea but expensive and needed all the other accessories to make "cool" videos. The installation and pairing with phone is seamless, very easy and straightforward. This is only the motor and tripod mount on top and bottom, I have a selfie stick phone mount which use the same size tripod thread etc which works perfect. It is a simple device where you swipe left/right to move the phone camera directions, expensive for what is it as you can get a phone gimble with the same function and AI auto tracking built in for less. The website shows some amazing footage which is not achievable unless you have the swing or bracket and another spin etc.It is cool to be able to do time-lapse and pan videos but an egg timer with some modification will do that too without having to buy expensive accessories. When the motor is engaged it does have a slight motor noise which could be picked up by the phone mic.It is strong enough to carry my DSLR and to spin it together.
