Great product, challenging install
I'm very happy with the finished product. It's quite sturdy and good looking. But don't kid yourself. Unless you have some fabrication skills & a few hours to invest, this project is not for you. Buy the cheapo individual plastic hinges.First off, no holes from the old hinges will align and the instructions are vague & worthless. This job would have been a real bear, except for the fact that a few fellow Amazon users posted their install pics--something the mfg does not provide. Thanks to them I was able to figure out how to approach this thing and managed to get everything all lined up right on the first try without having to drill holes over & over. In that spirit I will do my part and upload a few pics of my install. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Beautiful hinge but tough to put together
This toilet hinge is beautiful but difficult to install. The holes in my toilet seat did not align with the hinge so I had to drill new holes. The instructions that came with the hinge were not detailed enough. The pieces in the pictures all look the same and it gave a brief description that just wasn't enough. You'll have to figure it out on your own. Once completed the hinge looks great and its a lot more sturdy than the plastic ones that most seats come with. Its a great buy if you have the patience to drill holes. Probably would be easier with two people working together to put it tomorrow.

I would only recommend for use on a wooden seat
I would only recommend for use on a wooden seat. This hinge is very good quality hinge. Was not difficult to install, but it requires a little patience. First, install the post bolts into the toilet bowl. These are really your only two fixed reference points. Second, install the cross bar through the post bolts. The lid hinge brackets fit in the middle of the bar between the tank posts and the seat hinge brackets hold the end of the cross bar in place. Third, you have to judge for yourself how to center and align the old toilet seat with the toilet bowl. This should be centered on the left and right side of the bowl. Also be sure the seat does not extends too far out front or too far back. Basically, you need to be a little artistic with centering everything. Fourth, I removed all the parts and assembled on my workbench. I could not install the screws for the seat with the hinge installed on the toilet bowl. It was much easier on a table. Install the seat screws into the mounting hinge brackets. Be sure you center the brackets left and right, and keep the cross bar about 1/4" parallel with the rear of the seat. The screws did not line up with my old hinge. Be careful you don't drill through a thin part of the seat or lid, else the screws will come through. Fifth, I installed the seat and bar onto the toilet bowl. Sixth, To install the lid, I placed a small piece of wood underneath the lid as a spacer to align the lid when installing the screws. Again, the new screws did not line up with the old holes. I filled the old holes with wood filler. That was really it. Like I said, it requires patience. Also, make sure you spread the seat hinge brackets as far as possible. That will keep the seat from sliding side to side. The cross bar was wider then I expected. I did not realize it before I mounted the seat hinge brackets. Ideally I would have cut the cross bar about 1/4" shorter. This would prevent the seat from sliding side-to-side. One remedy as I mentioned, is to spread the seat hinge brackets as wide as possible before you attach the seat.Update # after about a month, the chrome finish is flaking off. I suspect this is caused by toilet bowl cleaners (lysol)

Great item.
Needed new hinge for toilet seat. This polished chrome hinge is very nice and spruces the look of the bathroom. The directions on the packaging were hard to follow. (No directions in the box). Looks very nice and is quite sturdy.

It works... I guess, but not too happy with metal fading
Not great, I mean it's okay if you want to extend toilet seat life. But the metal fades/rusts and doesn't clean great. Also it really takes more time/effort to install than just inevitably buying a new seat (especially if your old holes don't line up correctly). And if they don't, you'll then need to fill them etc.Don't get me wrong it works... Just not happy with overall quality, but then again it was cheaper than replacing the entire seat. Especially since toilet manufacturers won't always sell the exact seat hinges... Also note that I do all my own car/electronic/plumbing/electrical/woodwork and even having all those skills just doesn't seem worth the effort to waste installing this, unless you get lucky and it lines up, you'll then need to add effort to make it perfect. It didn't even take that long and I got it perfect, but I can see someone without the tools/time not liking this, so hopefully you know what you're in for (I would hope so). With that out of the way, the positives are it's sturdy and it works, so other than installing/metal fading it at least buys you time between ultimately replacing the seat.

Almost perfect! Easy replacement.
One piece of the hinge broke on my beloved and impossible to replace toilet seat. I could see that this hinge was almost identical. Rather than spend over $100 on a new cool seat, I took a chance on this hinge. Removing the old seat was challenging - righty-tightly, lefty-loosey but the bolts were upside down. Broke off the old plastic one but no problem.Spread papers down on a table. Put the seat down upside down and worked backwards, praying helps. The parts lined up. Removed the old hinge. Fastened the inside attachments using the old screws on existing holes first. Slight distance problem solved by using the new, smaller screws on one side. Then the outside ends. One side fit perfectly into the existing holes, but the other side was a tad bit off. Solved by using the slightly different design end parts from the old hinge with new screws. Perfect! Many thanks for this truly unique hardware.

Great replacement for original wood toilet seat same design
Ordered as a replacement for a broken hinge on original Oak toilet seat same type of hinge . It fits exact in place of old one screw holes line up . Only issue had to grind end of tube as a little longer than original as I wanted to use old holes in seat . But once shortened a little fit like original part . Great fit does the job .
