The sequel to Tremors... How was this disappointing?
This movie felt a little to long for what it actually is, and takes a bit to pick up. More things were added to this film than the original had, but this does not match, or add up to the first in anyway. The acting was pretty bad, and Kevin Bacon's character got married to someone so he was not starring in this disappointing sequel.

A true classic
One of the few sequels in movie history to live up to the original. No Kevin bacon, no need. This one takes place in Mexico so you know things are going to heat up when Earl and Grady take on the subterranean beasts with the help of fan-favorite weapons expert Burt Gummer. A must-see for any tunneling-monster enthusiast.

Light-hearted, silly fun
The Graboids are back and this time their terrorising a Mexican oil refinery. Depressed and bored with the fact that he was the only one who didn't make money from his experiences in the first film, Earl Bassett quits his ostrich farm in Nevada and heads south to stomp out the Graboids with the help of new recruit Grady Hoover. When they get there however, they discover that the Graboid is only the first stage in the creature's development and soon they are facing something much more dangerous. Burt Gummer comes to the rescue with a truckload of guns and explosives. Cue lots of blowing up and loads of Graboid guts.Tremors 2 has a silly, sarcastic sense of humor and a fast pace. There's not one minute of boredom and Fred Ward plays the cantankerous, irritable Earl very well. You'll hardly be missing Kevin Bacon. The DVD presents the film in a sadly non-anamorphic 1.78:1 transfer. The picture is passable but is not impressive. The sound is Dolby 2.0 and it's no more than average with decent spaciousness and fidelity. A trailer is also included.

Direct to video goodness!
Tremors is a 1990 American monster movie, one that has sunk itself into the hearts of many people across the world. The concept behind the movie is so ridiculous that it's a wonder it was ever made. To many people's surprise, it was a very well made film with great actor's and a lot of great comedy moments. Fast forward to 1996 and we now have a direct to video sequel, one that lacks the leading actor from the previous film. If that doesn't sound like a disaster, you are simply mad. But don't go away quite yet, this sucker is not as bad as it seems. The idea behind Tremors 2 is just as silly as the first film. Kevin Bacon's Val character has went off and married Rhonda (Finn Carter) from the first movie leaving poor Earl all by his lonesome. Whilst sucking down some beers and trying to get his Ostrich's to breed, he gets an offer to help eradicate a Graboid infestation at a Mexican oilfield. With his new side kick Grady Hoover by his side, Earl takes the offer. Tremors 2 also sees the return of our favourite gun nut Burt. Equipped with enough explosives to win Vietnam, the team sets off to kick some butt subterranean dinosaur worm butt.If that sounds completely ridiculous to you, that's because it is. But it's the utter nuttiness of the whole thing that makes the movie. The actors whilst having their funny quips and jokes don't ham it up too much. They keep the whole situation just serious enough to put it in line with the original movie. That is until the last scenario of the film where it just becomes hilariously over the top. The monster effects are all great with the Graboids looking just as good as they did in the first film. There's plenty of gore to be seen and it all looks delightfully juicy. The CGI leaves a little to be desired but that's to be expected from 1996.The bluray transfer of Tremors 2 was a nice surprise. I read about the quality being a bit on the low side but compared to the old DVD, this is a nice step up. Some scenes leave a little to be desired but the overall product looks sharp, clear and a huge improvement on the poor standard definition copy I use to have. It actually made me realise how nice some of this movie actually looks. The gigantic open fields of green etc look really nice here and the film overall has a nice natural look to it.Tremors 2 isn't exactly going to set the world on fire and I doubt that was the intentions of the director. But it is still a great time to be had and must have for fans of the original film. Seeing Burt and Earl is always great fun, it's just a shame Kevin Bacon was reportedly too embarrassed to do it. But as it is, it's honestly one of the funniest and enjoyable underrated monster movie sequels of recent time. Don't be put off by the low price, the direct to DVD label or the awful follow up movies.Tremors 2 is a very fun movie and one you can enjoy safely with the whole family. Assuming you're as weird as ours!
