Disturbingly Clever
I’m a horror aficionado, so there’s not much in the genre that really disturbs me - but this book did. I will NEVER walk into tall grass again. Clever plot, likable characters. I highly recommend picking this book up!

Reminiscent of The Tommyknockers
IN THE TALL GRASS by Stephen King and Joe Hill is a mix of horror, science fiction and supernatural suspense. There's a moment where I had a flashback to The Tommyknockers. The grass field itself made me think of the fairy circles which trap unsuspecting travelers. While the setup is a bit slow, establishing the bond between brother and sister emphasizes their fear of being separated. The story is intense, and has a few scenes which might qualify this novella as extreme horror. I don't think this tale measures up to 1980s Stephen King stories (I have no point of reference for Joe Hill's work), but I'm recommending it anyway. If you enjoy this, you should also check out MILE 81.

Old School
I have been a King fan since childhood. Have I read everything he has written? Of course not. Enough to gauge what is merely good over what truly grabs you? Probably so. Was curious, so pre-ordered and forgot about it. Along the sames lines and settings as Mile 81 or some oldies, but with enough flourishes to still creep you out. Written in collaboaration with Joe Hill, it has a seamless one author feel. Some over the top sickness, which you can see coming but still a nice, if gruesome wee read for a road trip (I read this while on one). I don't want to drop any plot spoilers here, so for those who bemoan the "vulgarity" or "crudity" of this particular piece all I can say is why don't you go enjoy a nice hot cuppa shut the shrack* up. This is the HORROR genre, so take it or go back to watching reruns of Saved By The Bell, Webster or whatever. I think shorts like these are a great way for the authors to just keep prodding away at themes, characters, moods to keep the noggin limbered up for deeper, more complex excursions whislt entertaining the masses. That said, intrigued by the previews included of things to come. Especially Dr. Sleep, a sequel to The Shining. I have seen the Kubrick/King version multiple times so that is the story line I am most familar with. Read the novel (after having seen film version) and remember a Sci Fi channel (Pre Syfy) mini series which was good take on the novel, although not as strong as earlier film version. Preview read, now I want to keep pressing on. That said, how come when you search for Stephen King and Dr Sleep on Amazon, there is no direct link to pre-order that title? I would have done so already. Instead I keep getting referred to pap to material such as "Dark Curtains" by Evans & Adam Light. WTF? I am entering Stephen King as a keyword. How any other authors pop up first and foremost is mystifying, if not plain annoying...Hopefully King and crew will note this and raise the devil to rectify...sheesh!*Gotta thank Kage Baker for this one, use it to prevent getting booted off overly pc forums and whatnot. I also loved the recent Battlestar G's use of "frack" in much the same context but decided to go with the s word today.

In the Tall Grass, by Stephen King and Joe Hill
Siblings Cal and Becky DeMuth are driving through Kansas on their way to California where Becky is planning on delivering the baby she doesn't want. The radio is off, the windows are down, and as they pass an old church in the middle of nowhere, they hear a voice calling for help.Cal and Becky stop to see what's what and discover a boy and his mother are lost in a vast field of grass just off the highway. The boy is screaming for help, while the boy's mother, who is obviously not with her son, is screaming for him to be quiet before "he" finds them. Cal and Becky don't know what's going on, but people need help, and they're going to do what they can.So into the tall grass, they go, in search of the boy and his mother. Cal steps in first and the grass is so tall, and so thick, the siblings are immediately separated. And that's when Becky and Cal realize just what it is they've gotten themselves into.IN THE TALL GRASS is a novella written by the father and son team of Stephen King and Joe Hill and was originally published in two parts in ESQUIRE Magazine, their second collaboration, and it just further cements the fact that the Kings really know what they're doing.IN THE TALL GRASS is such a simple premise I can't believe it hasn't been written before. And the way they handle the characters and the situation, plus that wonderfully evil ending (I'm not 100% sure the denouement is necessary, but what're you gonna do?) . . . I just loved it.I did feel a certain aspect of the story was a little too TOMMYKNOCKER-ish and harkened back a few too many classic science fiction stories--and not just King stories, I'm talking even further back, but it's not a bad thing necessarily; the plot device is so often used because it works. I just wished it hadn't been the catalyst for the weird goings on in this case. I'd hoped for something else entirely original and unexpected. But in the end, I think it works, and it certainly doesn't keep the story from being a great read.IN THE TALL GRASS really highlights what makes horror so fun to read. King and Hill have taken a situation that, while certainly not all that common, is definitely one you wouldn't expect to find this particular kind of horror in, but there it is. And the fact they pulled it off so well just goes to show, again, they really know what they're doing and the imagination that runs through those genes is still a thing to behold. As a writer, IN THE TALL GRASS shows talent will win out over flash in the pan bandwagon stories any day. And as a reader, it shows there are still new horrors out there waiting to be discovered.I like that thought. It gives me hope. This story is horror for the sake of horror, it's a story written for the joy of writing it, a story the authors clearly had a great time collaborating on. And for me it's a story that shows horror is still alive and well. It's the kind of story that makes me want to get back to work and dream up something amazing. The ebook runs only about 75 Kindle pages and can easily be read in a day and it's definitely worth the $4. IN THE TALL GRASS is a great horror story, and I definitely recommend it.

Classic King
I absolutely loved this story. It was thrilling with a quality of horror I haven't read from King in a while. Everything in this story had me questioning what was going to happen next. And a very quick read!

Short and Creepy
You know what's going to happen - the sickest thing. But does it really happen? These two can pull off the creepiest in the nature
