New Laptop Notebook Replacement Keyboard with Backlit Compatible with Dell Inspiron 15 3000 3541 3542 5547 Black US Layout

One of the keys was not working as well as it used to. I needed to replace another part so bought this at the same time since I was already opening up the case. This component was not too difficult to install and works good. Would not try to install this unless you have some interest, experience, or some comfort level working on laptops or other small electronic devices.

I dropped my laptop a while back and ever since then the a few keys didn't respond unless I pressed really hard. Other times it'd register as 3 presses so very frustrating to type anything. Took 2 min to swap out the old keyboard and insert this new one. No issues with the install; just make sure the ribbon cable is fully seated/ edges fully inserted past the tabs/ all contacts touching. Lit right up and all keys worked fine. Time will tell to see if the keys wear off; the OEM keyboard did not. To the other reviewers saying it's 'cheap'; it's the same flimsiness as OEM. Not sure what you're expecting; keyboard from beginning of Wanted?

Typing on the new keyboard now, which is installed on a Dell Inspriron 17 5000 Series. The 17 5000 uses the same keyboard as the 15. I considered and weighed the negative reviews and opted to purchase, being an older laptop, which has been relegated to light service. Upon initial examination, the unit appeared to be nearly identical to the factory original. There is no relative flimsiness or cheap feel about it. They'll all be "flimsy" until mounted. - The ribbon cables are not marked "UP" on the upside, so do a careful comparison to your old unit before connecting. + Once connected, I did a thorough shakedown, paying special attention to the Space bar, Enter, and Shift keys. 100% success with no issues. Those having problems with certain keys may be the victims of iffy quality control. No such problems here. + After testing, I snapped the unit into place, which fit perfectly. It feels solid with no indication of sponginess or other issues relating to the fit and overall feel. + The key action is very similar to the factory original. Not identical, but very close. Keeping in mind the original had almost 10 years of hard use. - The backlighting implementation is a little sloppy, as pointed out by others. A good amount of light leaks from some key edges, particularly the top an bottom rows, and some keys appear brighter than others. With the minor negatives listed, I'm giving 4 stars, and considering this a good purchase. Obviously can't comment on durability at this time :-)

I videoed my installation of this keyboard and I am THRILLED that it works so well. It was a snap to take out the old one and put in the new one. No problem at all. Just go on YouTube to look for instructions. The video is about 1 1/2 minutes long That's how easy it is. Just be careful not to rip the "tape". I cleaned up a spill on the inside with a clean cloth sprayed with alcohol. Just be careful not to soak it. I am so pleased with the product and myself for being able to handle this thing. Who says 70-year-old grandmothers can't do things? I went to YouTube University! LOL, I even replaced the panel in a microwave when it was throwing off sparks. Bought the product here on Amazon Prime! You can do it too. I have a video of the installation but it's too long to put on here. If the manufacturer wants it please contact me.

For $17, it’s hard to beat this replacement. The installation was easy, and the keys function as they should. However, the portions of the keys where the backlight shines through are significantly darker/more opaque than the original keys. This results in a keyboard with less contrast in direct light and much dimmer key backlighting. The keyboard also feels a bit flimsier than the original. If I had to do it again, I’d go for OEM or a different brand. However, if you’re looking to spend under $20, this is a good option with a few trade offs.

The ribbon cable for the keyboard is placed right at the bottom along the space bar. Unlike the photos, there is no tape or anything to keep the ribbon cable flush with the bottom of the keyboard. This prevents the spacebar and some of the bottom keys to not always work depending on where they are pressed. Even with tape the space bar doesn't always work. You have to press directly in the middle, any bit off center, and it doesn't register. I was going to rate this a touch higher than 1*, as the rest of the keyboard seemed fine. While not my preference in feel, its a keyboard.. However, after contacting support, they said this has never happened before, so I must have installed incorrectly, or it was damaged during shipping. 5 minutes on their amazon page, and I can see that it clearly has happened before in other comments, and that even their pictures are misleading. I would try and buy OEM, or spend a little extra on a better brand.

Easy to install and was well packaged so there was no damage to the keyboard. It's a bit on the louder side when clicking the keys but it works perfectly.
