Best $30 Analog Alarm
I have to say this is one of the best $30 that I have ever spent. No ticking of the seconds hand, and I can’t hear it at all, just a smooth sweep. But what I really like is the auto nightlight feature that you can turn on and off. I am sure I am burning the AA (not AAA) batteries faster, but I can read this quickly and easily at any time of the night. The only downsides are that there is a slight amount of play on the movement when setting the time, so it is hard to get the time down to the exact minute. Also my alarm feature - which is set in 10-minute intervals - has a hair amount of play, and mine will often go off two minutes after the set time. So 05:32 when I set it to 05:30. As long as you can accept that, this is great for the price.

Best clock I've ever owned.
I've been using battery alarm clocks for over 40 years now, ever since I missed a college final exam when my plugin radio alarm failed me with a power outage (no battery backup). This clock is the best one I have ever owned, bar none. The backlight feature is pleasant and not overwhelmingly bright. It is able to be turned off if you prefer -- a nice touch. The alarm sound is also pleasant and mirrors what I was used to with my last clock (beep-beep-beep-beep). The case is heavy feeling in a way that just screams quality. I at first bought the one with black face, and then bought this one with the white face, as it was a bit easier to read in the middle of the night. I am keeping them both however, since they're such nice clocks. You cannot go wrong with this clock. For me at least, it's perfect.

Finally, a decent alarm clock!!
I bought the black with white face model and love it. Any item that includes the required batteries is a plus in my book. I have been looking for a new battery alarm clock to replace one that is now 13 years old and not sounding so good anymore. I have bought a few (well known brand names) for nearly twice as much as this one only to have them break or not work properly in a very short amount of time. This Marathon is absolutely silent. No tic, tic sound at all. It is keeping very accurate time. NOTE: it appears the reviews for this clock and an atomic setting one have been merged. The clock I have and am reviewing is just your basic manual set clock, which is just what I wanted. Something I think is pure genius and not prominently advertised about this one is the alarm on/off feature. That red button on top of the unit. When it's in the up position the alarm is on, when it's down the alarm is off. It takes a deliberate effort to turn it off. Unlike so many others, including my expensive electric clock radio, where it is easy to accidentally turn off the alarm when all you meant to do was hit the snooze. Pressing the snooze bar activates the back light for a few seconds. It is a soft yellowish light that doesn't startle or hurt your eyes in the dark. I haven't used the constant back light feature yet. The alarm itself is loud enough to wake without scaring the life out of you. All in all, if you're looking for a basic battery alarm clock with thoughtful conveniences, this is it!!

Nice little clock
I had a clock I use in my bathroom so I can make sure I don't get lost in the grooming of my substantially longer lockdown hair. Unfortunately, it finally started to struggle to get those old arms up and over high noon every day. I looked around and while some designs looked nice, more often than not they were listed in that way you know it's some company from a country we don't mention with that cookie-cutter all caps 8 character (or so) name that feels like it was auto-generated by a machine that mashes a keyboard randomly.Don't get me wrong. This clock is made in China (but, hey, it's DESIGNED in Canada so you know the design will be friendly and say Sorry every so often). But it still works and works well. I wanted larger numbers (easier to read from across the room when I want to make my oversized head look more modest) but instead I got a nice clock with a nice little light you can trigger easily on top that isn't a blazing beacon of Gondor in the middle of the night. So far, no problems or gripes. We'll see how it fares as the months and years pass.

Night light feature is great - and doesn’t run down batteries
I’m using this clock in a bedroom to replace an old clock/radio where the LEDs got too dim to read during the day; since I’ve got a smartphone I didn’t need the alarm or radio features anymore. What’s great is that it’s just a regular clock that’s super easy to read during the day even across the room, and at night the white dial lights up with a dim warm amber color that doesn’t disturb sleep.Since the night light is on all night every night, at first I assumed battery life would be significantly reduced - but so far, after 4 months, it is still working fine with rechargeable batteries that I haven’t had to recharge yet.The clock looks nice - not cheap. It feels sturdy, and the red alarm button is a clever design - if you can see it sticking out it, means the alarm is on.I’m not crazy about the design of the clock face - it just looks cluttered. It could be improved by removing the unnecessary extra small 24-hour digits, and making the main digits bigger. Also, the adjustment knob on the back is easy to detach when you pull it out to change the time setting, though it pushes back into place easily.P.S. Since I was worried about this thing eating through batteries, I tried powering it with a Lenink dual AA battery replacer (it’s an AC adapter that outputs DC power via fake batteries). But when I did that the clock ran really slow. Other reviews reported similar problems with clocks.
