These Solo Pots are the best, quick, simple to operate and hold up for years. I've purchased these Solo Pots for everyone of my favorite people and personally own 4 of them. I will buy another for the new camp trailer.

I had previously had the competitor’s product—let’s charitably call it the JFat coffee pod machine. Or rather, TWO of the competitor’s JFat machines. Both failed, almost to the day, at 4 months 2 days. The first machine was warranty replaced. The warranty replacement failed at—you guessed it—4 months and 2 days. My JFat machine was replaced a THIRD time (in under 9 months) but I have zero faith now in that machine. In each case the unit was toast after doing the first descaling cycle. And apparently, going online, it is a very common failure. You shouldn’t have to pay close to $100 for a coffee maker that fails every 4 months! So I took a chance and got this unit. Update 3 months later: I revised my review to one star. Initially this unit was GREAT. But 2 months and 2 days later, it started freaking out--belching out steam from the lid, and the pump motor sounded like it was straining to climb Mt. Everest. I had only used distilled water in this unit, and probably brewed 2-3 cups of coffee a day. Amazon promptly replaced the unit, and I gave the warranty replacement unit a try. It lasted less than a month when it started acting weird--all the lights would start flashing at once, etc. I unplugged everything and it seemed to be okay. As a precaution, I tried to run the cleaning cycle, following the printed instructions EXACTLY. The automated cleaning cycle would NOT work. I wound up running a tank of the descaling/water solution through manually, one cup at a time. At this point the unit was under a month old! That seemed to help a tiny bit--but the next day the belching steam started, and the unit would stop brewing WAY to early--like 2 minutes to brew six ounces, when I had pressed 12 ounces. Today, after taking 3+ minutes to get 6 ounces of coffee, I give up. TWO brand new units in three months. And this was after TWO K-Slim units going out exactly 4 months and 2 days of use. I have whole house water softening to eliminate mineral impurities. For the last Keurig machine and both of these machines, I used pure distilled water ONLY. Still--they quit after an absurdly short period of time. I'm not brewing 25 cups of coffee a day. I'm not brewing only powdered drinks (i.e. cocoa or the espresso types) just plain old Keurig coffee cups. I clean the unit(s) regularly, and run through the little cleaning pods about every 10 days just to be sure. And ALL of them have crapped out. I am giving the Keurig system one last chance--I'm buying one of the best units, a Cuisinart, that has better construction and a better pump system. Keurig et.al, you need to get your acts together and engineer and construct MUCH better products and MUCH more robust pumps. Online searches show more and more people complaining--some from even 2 days ago, all saying "this unit only lasted 1 month" or "after 5 months it was toast" or "my old machine lasted 4 years, this one barely lasted a few months." You are biting the hand that feeds you, and eventually the buying public will shun your brewers and your entire Keurig system. You have created the Ford Pinto of coffee makers. FIX IT--NO EXCUSES!

This has replaced a 5 mo old top model keurig and even though Keurig is sending me a new one I decided I needed to try another make and have a backup. This is far more simple to operate than the keurig and it brews hotter coffee. It has less features and offers less cup sizes but I find 8,10 &12oz sizes is all I need and would use. The flavour using McCafe is not quite as good as the keurig but not enough difference to make me return it. Build quality is on par plus amazon has a 90 return or replace warranty on it and after that the manufactures 1yr warranty. That's excellent because most problems arise within those 90days. One major difference that gives this 5 stars is that it puts no coffee grinds in the cup of coffee. The keurig did unless you cleaned it out after every use. That was unacceptable this is the first of out 4 Keurigs that did that. I phoned them and they said that is normal because of the multiple punctures it makes in the pod. Maybe I had a bad machine because it died within 5mos. I no longer trust them so time will tell if Instant pot solo will prove to outlast and out perform over the next weeks and months. I just got it today so these are my initial impressions so I will update if I have any issues with it. I do recommend it. UPDATE After time if not properly cleaned with a bacteria killer like bleach etc this will harbour bacteria. The many reason is this does get the water hot enough. That is a major flaw. I got sick from using it and I thought I had kept it cleaned. I stopped using it and return to using the top Model Keurig which has a temperature adjustment setting in the menu. At its highest temp it produce far hotter coffee than this Instant solo. At first I loved its simplicity but always had to add boiling water to a cup of coffee after adding milk. Totally unacceptable plus the coffee made from a Keurig is far better tasting even though this machine has its issues...coffee grinds in coffee as does the Solo. I find myself have to run just water thru either machine to get rid of grinds so they don't go in the next cup of coffee. Still the keurig wins hands down. The solo would be fine if it made a really hot cup of coffee and over time with constant use produces less hot coffee.

Now after 2 years - no problems. I have went through 5 keurigs- they self destruct after 1 year. Looks good against other white/stainless appliances The instapot logo doesn't look great but a sticker fixed that
