This book is of limited value even to the swift playground novice.
This book is not for experience developers! I’m a novice iOS developer and I quickly flicked through the first 135 pages in about 5 mins... wondering when the hell I might actually learn something new which I haven’t already picked up from just using the ipad app. The book is comprised mainly of screen grabs about (170 half-page screen grabs) with usually 1 short paragraph underneath describing something fairly straighforward about the screen grab. The book may be 180 pages long, but the text could have been condensed into about 30 pages if that. Even 80% of images barely have a few lines of generic code so its not like there was more text in the screen grabs. This book seems more like a template or first draft, without the nuts and bolts. I was probably the perfect candidate for this book, I’m new to swift with about 6 weeks of learning already under my belt. I’ve been playing around in xcode mainly.... and only started using playgrounds a couple of weeks ago. After knocking off the 3 playground modules provided by Apple I was looking for something to help take my swift learning in playgrounds to the next level. Unfortunately, this book was a time waster. I’ve learnt a couple of new things in the second half of the book about subclasses and doing a simple touch gesture, but the book really missed the mark. You only get a few snippets of coding which teach you a few new concepts...you learn about 100 times more concepts in just doing the coding exercises provided by Apple. The subtitle of the book is “the fastest & most effective way to code and teach others to code”, yes playgrounds the ipad app can make that claim... this book certainly doesn’t do that!

Do not buy it.
Too small. Very simplistic. Better information/tutorials on line.
