A great tool for real world data visualization (and a pretty good sim also)
I had been away from the world of flightsims for over 10 years when a friend recommended I try this as a tool to review some real world flight data recorder information from a training session I was involved with. I already had the data in a text format, and with a little tweaking was able to get it into the necessary format to load into the X-Plane replay tool. I fired it up expecting to see some rudimentary depiction, but was blown away by the incredibly realistic representation of both the airplane and surroundings - not to mention the actual flight path and the ability to manipulate the perspective from both inside and outside the airplane. That alone was well worth the price. "Included" with that capability was of course the actual simulator, and when I eventually got to it I jumped in to the included 747-400 model. I've spent a bit of time around real 747's, so I started it off cold and dark and went through the startup procedure expecting it to be a pretty poor representation. Darn if it wasn't close to the real thing. There were a few items missing or buttons that were not functional, but all in all it was far beyond my expectations. I then took a Cessna 172 out of my local airport for a couple of patterns, and the same held true. Yes, there is the "sim factor" of buttons and switches not working exactly like the physical airplane (for example it takes several seconds to shift the view to find where to click on a switch that in the real world would be a memory action) but the flight model and environmental interactions are close enough to be useful.

Very realistic from a pilot prospective
I purchased this in order to maintain proficiency in the different types of aircraft I fly. The only negative comment I have is that there is not full functionality in the G1000 cockpit. However this simulator is perfect in a G1000 prospective when it comes to simulating instrument approach with or without auto pilot engaged. There is no difference in this and the real aircraft with G1000 system in shooting instrument approaches.

Installing X-Plane 11
Loading the Australian scenery for X-Plane 11 was a challenge as Disc 4 and 7 were not readable. I returned the Software pack to Amazon and received a replacement at no added cost. The replacement set of Discs were OK and I was able to load X-Plane 11 and the scenery for Australia. The software is extensive and is an excellent Flight Simulator for gaming enthusiasts as well as for trainee, operational and retired Civilian and Air Force pilots.

Improved Graphics and Performance
Exceeded all my expectations. It’s rare to purchase a sim upgrade that exceeds the previous version performance-wise, but X-Plane 11 did just that. Besides vastly improved graphics, XP11 has much faster load times than its predecessor and works well on any system that can run the patched version of XP10. The interface is slightly different, but it’s very intuitive and easy to learn. I’m happy to see the improved FMC in the 737 and MD-82. The only downside is that most aircraft from older versions don’t seem to work as well in XP11, if at all. Some load, some don’t even show up in the menu. Theoretically, they can be reconfigured with the included aircraft maker, but I haven’t tried that yet. Definitely recommended.

which sucks away performance too
Much improved user interface compared with earlier versions. I never figured out how to use versions 9 and 10, which I eventually uninstalled in frustration. This version is a snap to use. It is, however, very demanding on the CPU, RAM, and video card. You will get low frame rates unless you have a very fast system or are willing to dumb-down the features. I run with three monitors using AMD's Eyefinity, which sucks away performance too. If you have a single monitor, performance hits will be less.

Does have flaws in program but, I still spend hours trying to fix bugs, and advise manufacturer.
The program is great in some areas and fails in others due to glitches in software, such as Flight Management Computer, ar times the program crashes, and gives notice to fill out report and send it however, it doesn't allow you ti send it and program shuts down. I have emailed logs and asked for help but haven't had a fix to any issue thus far. But, if it all worked properly I would be a Happy Camper. They will eventially work out all the bugs. It also only comes with certain aircraft. If you want an Airbus A320 it is not here. They do include Boeing 727, 737, 747. It is worth the money and if you don't like it you can return.

Great Fun
Takes a while to install all the DVD's and the first one is always needed when using the software. It is definitely best to install all the software and optional regions and planes. Consider carefully very carefully the specification of the computer you use for playing this game it does need to be of a high specification high RAM and reasonably recent processor. Also get a nice and big monitor. I think it is an absolute MUST to get a good joystick I use the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Other options such as foot pedals and the like are really optional. I have also flown in the past and this amazing software is really close especially to simpler aircraft like a training Cessna. I teach my children and they get to know the instruments and how a plane fly's. But a personal comment to all of you...the real thing is far better and who knows how long it will be before Amazon sell flying lessons!?

DVD Software Issue (update)
Xplane 11 DVD is not good software. I tried for 3 days to download the software according to the instructions to no avail! I email customer service because they had no other contact. I left them know some files are damaged and the softy won’t download and they basically sent me the same troubleshooting instructions I used from their website. They weren’t helpful and as I researched the issue I had regarding lack of permissions and not getting past DVD 3, o soon realized many customers had this issue and XPlane didn’t help them either. They ended up having to download the online version. I shouldn’t have to repurchase this when I just bought it not even 30 days ago. I’m very disappointed. (Update: I contacted XPlane customer service and they sent me a product key. My download work from their site with no problem so I’m convinced these DVDs are defective)

The Rudder on the aircraft does NOT WORK for a start. I've tried both of my joysticks, my control Yoke, my rudder pedals, and the mouse. NOTHING. The only thing I can say is the graphics are good, Without being able to fly the aircraft in the game, I can't review the rest. Waste of money. If I could, I would give this zero stars.

I enjoyed using but it became too much for my older Mac.

At the moment it's a *3 because it won't load plus it's scratched on disc 1 but I've purchased some cleaning products so I hope it will work, this is what we get every time we try.

I was overjoyed when I received this product. Unfortunately, I am unable to load it onto the computer, even with all the suggested ways.
