I have wanted an old fashioned style hourglass similar to this one for years. I finally broke down and bought this one as a splurge and a gift for myself to be used on my desk. I have to be honest in this review that I have not timed the accuracy of this unit and I don't really know how long the sand flows through it. I can say that I regularly use this when I am working at my desk to regulate my time between breaks, and it goes for a long time. It's also fun to watch the sand flow through it and pile up in the bottom section before flipping it again. The build quality seems decent, but I do wonder if it may start to fall apart over a long time with regular use. I would imagine if it does, that it would be easily repaired with wood glue. I have not found any flaws with this product, and I highly recommend it for decoration and as a neat way to pace yourself when you are working at your desk.

When I first opened this the sand stuck after a few minutes and it would not go down. Tried to shake and turn it a few times over a coupld of days and forgot about it for a week. Then when I tried again it worked fine. Has been working ever since. We use it to monitor TV time for preschool granddaughters, they know when the sand is down their time is up for the day. When my kids were young I used one for nap time - you had to lay on your bed until the sand was all down. Of course they always fell asleep anyway, but it gave them a sense of control when they thought they didn't need a nap.

I bought these for some of the guys on my football team. They were a great choice.

My hourglass is beautiful, the vibrant blue sand compliments the dark wood frame.

Looks great, more accurate than I expected. I timed it at 60 minutes and 10 seconds. More than close enough for my purposes. The pictures make it look bigger than it is. If you stretch out your thumb and pinky as far as they go (on an average-sized hand) that is about 8 inches.

Was hoping to use in the sauna, but the humidity/heat made the grains stick after very little use and had to throw away.
