Sahara Rear Drag

I love the Shimano Sahara Reels! These are the best bang for the buck. I own EIGHT of the Sahara's from the tiny 500 to the 3000, with the various drag options. They perform flawlessly!!! Smooth as silk, very impressive!I own other popular reels in the same price range, some 50% more..............they don't compare. I pick up my rods with Sahara's to take fishing............the others stay home.The SURPRISE: This latest purchase of the 1000 Rear Drag included a spare rear drag spool!!! What a SURPRISE!!! These are $25 spools when purchased. I am THRILLED!!! Thank you Shimano!!!

I just bought my brother in law this reel in the 1000 size, for this upcoming Christmas. I was so impressed that I bought myself one also. :)This reel is very smooth, it feels like a reel that would be more expensive, aside from the weight, it's not terrible but it is a little chunky.The rear drag is a great idea, and the "fightin drag" lever is really quick and easy to use. You'll want to flip the bailer down, before reeling, after casting. It will crank down but it's not as smooth, as there again a 200.00+ reel. I have a few of those reels and that's what I'm used to. That is exactly why I am so impressed with this reel !! Aside from the two things I listed this is a solid little reel!! I would definitely recommend, and already have a few times, this reel especially if you looking for a good value!!

Love the "fightin drag". Balance is decent. Weight is acceptable for a rear drag reel.It's nice to see shimano selling better quality reels again.Still miss my symetre that I lost in the river.

Great ultra lite reel with the rear drag. Super smooth bail and crank action.

Smooth as silk. Drag is so easy to adjust while fighting fish. Got an an identical spare spool which was a surprise. Double check this since this is for the 1000R. I have higher end Shimano reels (Sustain, Baitrunner) and this model seems to be very high quality. What a bargain. I am going to get the 4000R as well.

I have fished with the old model with the quick fire cast leaver which was awesome but the old model quick cast spool did not lock when cast-retrieving for Small Mouth, Walleye and Pike.… so you hook set was delayed.. This new model WITHOUT the quick fire cast lever Locks the spool immediately when you stop retreveing, giving you an IMMEDIATE hook set!! The back drag quick adjustment has given me the opportunities to catch the BIG fish. You don't need luck catching the BIG fish with the on the fly quick adjustments of the back drag system!!! I have been using the back drag system for 20 or 25 plus years!! These reels are “Sunset Country”, Ontario, Canada Providence APPROVED(🎤drop)

This is a nice reel but I wish I would have gotten a bigger size.

I've used every Shimano reel known to man The rear drags on this model, can sometimes lock up a little but overall it's a good reel
