American Standard Champion flush valve
Easy to replace, a box wrench also came with this valve. No more water waste.

Leaky toilet? Buy this and save water and money
Our toilet started to leak and Amazon came to the rescue with this exact replacement which was much better than the generic flappers available in the big box stores. The American Standard Champion Flush Valve took just minutes to install and has adjustments so you easily control water levels in both the tank and bowl. It seems a little louder than our original flush valve, but have used it for several months now with no issues — and best of all, no noisy leaks!

Buy the OEM- Don't use Chlorine tabs in your toilet!
So, All I needed was the seal, but you can't buy just the seal, unless they've changed things on their website recently. When I replaced just the seal with a Lowes "compatible" product, big fail. It leaked slightly, then on a regular basis after two months. So then I bought the whole kit and replaced just the seal because otherwise I have to take everything apart, including separating the tank and bowl. Here's what I've learned from my plumber neighbor. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use the drop in chlorine tablets in your toilet tank. They will cause you seal to blister and leak. It may take weeks, it may take months depending on how often you flush your toilet tank. My toilet had been fine, then we went on vacation for three weeks and so I popped in the chlorine tab to prevent build up. Within a few weeks of returning my toilet was leaking. My neighbor said It was my fault and the dissolving chlorine blistered the seal, and I believe him as I've never had a seal fail like this. After getting rid of the chlorine tab remnants and replacing the seal, all is quiet. So, buy OEM and NEVER use chlorine tabs if you have the flexible silicon seal.

Exactly the right part. Inadequate directions
Replaced leaking flush valve, which was relatively easy. New valve assembly was leaking worse than the original. Ordered a second replacement from Amazon. When I took out the flush valve to replace it a second time I could see the problem. The brass "flange" that the valve assembly bolts to had the slightest bit of mineral buildup on it. Used scotchbrite to clean this brass plate, being careful to go around the ring, not across the plate where it could have scratched it and caused the seal to leak. The rubber gasket is fairly slim so there is little room for imperfections in the mating surfaces. This took care of it. Sent the second valve back unused, wasn't used. Be sure that this plate is clean and smooth. In areas where the water is hard you may need to replace this bottom part due to erosion.

Poor new design
This was the most time consuming thing to do. To have to unscrew and remove the entire top of the toilet was a nightmare. Once replaced I forgot to snap in one of the grey rings to the top piece of the flush valve ( why it wasn’t already attached is beyond me) and the new style doesn’t have the two clasp on each side to squeeze anymore for easy twist removal. Now how are we supposed to replace in the future because you have to unscrew the green top of the valve in order to replace and remove before detaching the top part of the toilet. It is so difficult to grab and twist without running the risk of it snapping the center plastic piece. I ended up just leaving it as is at that point. American Standard needs to go back to their old design. Considering how pricey this toilet is to began with it shouldn’t be this much of a hassle. Will be reaching out to manufacturer to see if they have the old valve in stock in case I have to do this again in the future. Would not recommend.

A hard-to-find toilet valve
This is a unique size for a toilet valve and difficult to find at any of the big box stores. It works as expected. But be sure to tighten the tap a good 3/4 turn after hand tightening using the provided tool to avoid a leak. I did not get it tight enough initially and had to disassemble the tank from the bowl to re-tighten.

Nice parts but I bought wrong one…
I am pretty good at buying toilet parts and repairing my toilet, but this time I really screwed up. I didn’t read the description of the toilet very well. I did not notice that this was for a one piece toilet. That definitely does not describe mine, so I was able to return it with no hassle. It was very easy sending it back via Staples. I found another one at Lowe’s.
