Heavy! Good!
Oh boy this thing is heavy solid steel. I’m a strong guy but it was heavy to carry two handed. I actually found it easier to carry it in one arm like carrying a textbook in high school. The pole is also solid but manageable. Assembly is easy. Put the tapered screw looking thing into the pole bottom (with tapering towards bottom), then twist the pole into the square steel base. There is a round grommet to put on top of the pole, just push it in. Finally there are two hand twisting screws to tighten when your umbrella actually goes in. That’s all. I placed my base on concrete so I used a piece of rubber under it so I could have finger room to lift and push it to its proper place. When I got closer to the end I removed the rubber and I was able to push and maneuver the base in small increments on the concrete until I got it perfectly under the patio table. Works well with the 1-1/2” pole umbrella that I own.

Solid and Stylish Umbrella Base, But Can Tip in Wind
This umbrella base looks great and feels heavy-duty right out of the box. The steel plate design is sleek, sturdy, and easy to assemble. I like that it comes with a sandbag for added weight and works with different umbrella sizes — a nice touch for versatility. The only downside is that it can still tip a bit in stronger wind, even with the sandbag. Adding extra weight helps, but it’s something to keep in mind if your area gets gusty.

Withstands strong winds
I live in a particularly windy area near the Red Rock Mountains and the wind can come up fast and strong. The stand that we purchased with a brand new, expensive umbrella couldn’t do the job…One wind lifted the umbrella and stand, which overturned the glass-top table and bent the umbrella pole beyond use. A very expensive wind. So we purchased a new table and new umbrella — and this stand. It is a very wide base made of solid steel, which gives it much greater stability, yet it is very low profile so chairs (and feet) still fit comfortably around it beneath the table. Two tightening screws secure the umbrella more effectively. It is so sleek that it more or less disappears under the table…after all, who really wants to notice the base? Highly recommended for dinner size tables. I only wish they offered it in different colors!

Best design I have seen.
If you use play sand it will take two .5 cubic feet bags of the sand to fill the weight bag. (I couldn't find that info in any of the reviews). Adds another 80 lbs of weight. Works very well to hold base down in windy conditions and doesn't look bad either. Best design I have seen for stands. The pipe thread into the base will prevent rusting and eventually stripping like other designs. Highly recommend. *Update one year later: I stored the sand bag with the sand in it in my garage for the winter. After being left outside in rain during the summer. I picked up the sand bag and it ripped right down the middle after just one summer/winter. I won't downgrade the rating because the stand is awesome but the bag they "threw in" is garbage.

Poor quality.
Horrible. Did not last two months. Asked for a return and Amazon will not issue it.

Rust
They leave rust marks on the composit deck but are heavy and don't blow over. We purchased 8 for a beach community.

Sturdy
We recently got a 10’ rectangular umbrella and wanted something sturdy to hold it. It’s get windy here at the ocean. This stand has held up perfectly. The only down side is that it’s heavy and with a large umbrella it’s hard to move around. Find the spot for it and leave it. Works great!
