OSD Audio 8” Trimless in-Ceiling Speaker - DVC Dual Dome Tweeters Stereo – ACE840TT

I wish this speaker had two grills, one round and other square. I've seen this feature on other speakers when locating it near square ceiling lights.

I have not completely installed all my items yet but from application to appearance they look great.

Easy installation

The ACE640TT is a good looking trimless design with decent audio. I'm using several of them in my whole-house background music system and the sound is very good, even when pushed to higher volumes. Small rooms used this 6" speaker, whereas larger rooms were upgraded to OSD's 8" speaker (also available on Amazon). There's very little stereo channel separation, but I expected that from a dual tweeter speaker. Not an issue for me since these play soft rock background music throughout my home that is best described as elevator music. Because I had attic access, every speaker was protected in a attic mounted "back box" enclosure. I used Recessed Light Covers sold by the local big box hardware store (also avail on Amazon, see https://www.amazon.com/Tenmat-FF130-Covers-Recessed-Lighting/dp/B002XVPUAO). Overall I'm happy with the audio quality. And WAF is high, thanks to the trimless design.

After 2 years of searching and with a fluctuating budget, I found the perfect surround/Multi-room audio speaker for my home. I was a little nervous ordering from OSD because I hadn't read/heard much about their speakers. I am EXTREMELY glad I did. First of all, the WAF is off the charts. My wife is happy with the small foot print these speakers have due to the trimless design. The off white(Ivory) color these speakers came in were a perfect match for my ceiling. This made installation even easier since I would not have to paint them. Spring loaded speaker connectors allow for quick wire connections. Cardboard cutout templates were extremely helpful, can't imagine having to use paper. There were a few things that I did have to do for my particular installtion that may not reflect on a typical in-ceiling installation. I used these speakers as my surround L+R speakers in a 5.2 HT setup. When ordering, I was not sure how the 4/8 ohm switch worked. It turns out that each voice coil is 8 ohms and the "switch" wires the voice coils in parallel for a 4 ohm load. This may cause a problem for some receivers that are not able to handle the 4 ohm load. My receiver is only stable with 6-16 ohm loads. I eventualy left the coils set to 8 ohm and wired them in series to provide a higher 16 ohm load for my receiver. Output is less due to the higher resistance of the speaker, but I compensated for this effect by adjusting my receiver gains. The aimable tweeters were a bit stiff, adjustments took a lot of care to prevent any damage to the tweeter domes. SO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING YOUR THUMBS!! I dented one of the tweeters with my nail while doing this. The sound seems unaffected however. I was planning on experimenting with rear enclosures so a good seal would be very important. After closer inspection I noticed that the tweeter bridge design left an opening on each side of the speaker. Call it OCD but I feel complete isolation of the front and rear waves of the speaker should be done in order to prevent "sound cancellation", which will affect overall bass output. Nothing a bit of tape and foam couldn't accomplish. All said and done, my family and I are very satisfied with the purchase. Shipping was prompt, product arrived safely and the 10 year warranty is great. I will order from OSD again and will recommend them to anyone.
