INSPIRATION
Since Galileo's discovery fantastic advances have been made in our understanding of the universe. In this wonderful and inspiring book, 'The Cosmic Detective', Dr. Mani Bhaumik provides new insights into our understanding of life, the cosmos and our intrinsic place in the universe. We are taken on a journey from 0 energy to the creation of the universe that was born from a tiny nugget of space smaller than an atom. The book beautifully illustrates the vision of The International Year of Astronomy 2009 (& was nominated as an official book of the IYA 2009) that the oneness of all things and the interconnectedness of all beings is a reality far greater than fantasy. A truly inspirational work that opens our eyes to the fact that we are created from the same source and we are in fact made of stardust. With these new discoveries we deepen our sense of interconnectedness and our understanding that we are ONE. I hope that ultimately such discoveries can inspire people away from segregation and war towards greater harmony. The Cosmic Detective is a pleasure from cover to cover. It is an addictive and easy read that stimulates your mind and senses. Profound and great fun at the same time.

Spectacular!
The Cosmic Detective takes readers on a ride that is usually reserved for only the finest, most educated minds. In his new book, Mani Bhaumik is able to bridge the gap between a top scientist and a child. Watching my young daughter devour this book was a delight. In a language they can understand, Mani is able to bring the cosmos and all of it's wonder to anyone of any age that has ever been fascinated with the night sky, helpling them to see it with new eyes. Answering questions most of us never even think to ask, he opens our eyes and hearts to the wonders of the cosmos. He has a unique talent of seeing and understanding this vast cosmos and making it accessible to all. Instead of feeling insignificant, the reader is left feeling that they too are as magnificant as the stars. After reading this book my daughter tells everyone that she is made from stardust and I can tell that she truly understands that she is and this has made her feel just a bit more at home in this wonderful Universe.

footprints in the stardust
As its title suggests, Mani Bhaumik's little introduction to the field of cosmology is--above all else--a mystery. From the first page, his prose reminds us that the study of the stars begins with mystification and awe, and that the most passionate science never ceases to regard the world with the eyes of a child. The higher math, chemistry, and speculative physics we martial in pursuit of scientific fact are just investigative tools brought to "the scene of the crime," the forensics kit we use to answer the fundamental question: what's out there? In language accessible to pre-teens but perfectly suitable for curious adults, Dr. Bhaumik tells the story of the stars and manages--in less than a hundred pages--to reawaken our ancestral fascination with the heavens.

An Exciting Exploration
When I first glanced at this remarkable, captivating book, the title suggested that even I could "explore the mysteries of our Universe." --And so I was lured into a reading adventure, awakened, enabled to understand what I had once thought would be incomprehensible to me.If only I would have had one professor in Physics with the wisdom and communication skills and love of his subject that Dr. Bhaumik possesses, perhaps I would have become aware of "the mysteries of our universe" long ago!I recommend this brilliant book to everyone from eighteen to eighty!

excellent read! Highly recommended!
This book stands out as one of the best on cosmology. Beautifully written and illustrated, it inspires readers to explore answers that go beyond scientific knowledge and draws a connection between science and spirituality. Dr. Bhaumik is one of those rare scientists, who is not afraid to point to the One who arranges the stars. As Hawking once said, the reward of understanding the universe may be a glimpse of "the mind of God."

useless book
There are books that little increase to what already exists. Is the case of this book of Mani Bhaumik. The book is simple and accessible and the author writes well, but the content is something that we can find in dozens of other books of the same kind. We don't see in this book an innovative approach to the cosmology or to the stellar physics. Bhaumik repeats that others already said so many times. Therefore, a useless book.

The book is interesting. A good read
I liked the text which is lucid. I didn't like black&white pictures of celestial objects and processes. The text is useful to all minds inclined to understand the mystery of the universe.

Black and white photographs inside the book and paper quality , printing unsatisfactory
The content is awesome, but the quality of the book is very low. I was disappointed to see black and white xerox copies of the photographs. this happens with pirated books which we usually buy from footpaths. Better to bu from college street or from shop.

Too elementary
Expectations were high after author's other book - Code Name God. Realized that the book is meant for young readers only after buying. The title suggests more advanced content.
