Dog Training in 10 Minutes

Easy to follow, easy to read and great approach to dog training. We got this in 1997 with our first dog, re-fresher our knowledge with second dog in 2009, and had to order a new version because we must have “loaned” it out. Great for building trust and a mutual relationship with your dog. I like how it’s not all treat based like some training approaches.

This book is a must-have for a new dog owner, especially if you haven't owned a dog in a while and want to teach the basics. We taught our shelter dog based on this book and he's the best dog ever. All our guests and friends love him too. It's easy to read and fun to read. You'll understand the mind of a dog--that they are pack animals and you'll soon be their pack. This concept really helped me to understand why our dog needed to be close to us and sleep in our bedroom (in his own bed) instead of being crated or shoved outside.It encourages owners to teach in 10 minute segments--a few each day. It made teaching more enjoyable for me and it worked for my dog this way too. She teaches owners to reward their dog with lots of praise and affection, not treats. It works. My dog thrives on it. She does not use the clicker method, just love and praise.And, there is nothing mean in this book, like another long-winded reviewer said. (Read all his reviews--he's hot-headed about most of the books he reviewed.)I volunteer at our local dog pound and am buying more of these books to give away to new, inexperienced adopters.

I've read a couple books by this author and she has an incredible understanding of dogs AND people. This book helped me train our miniature beagle, but in actuality it trained me! Carolyn is down to earth with real help all delivered in a humorous style seldom found. I so appreciate her insight into a dog's mind and how she trains us to see the brilliance of this precious species who are capable of understanding us humans better than we do sometimes. The book is comically illustrated by this talented lady as well. I love this book!

Although the book is well-written and entertaining to read I really didn't find that it taught me anything new. It *was* helpful in reminding me some of the fundamentals about dog training, and really kicked me in the [head] to *constantly* positively reinforce, no matter how unimpressive a command the dog is following, but overall, I don't think any major revelations were achieved. Some interesting thoughts, and probably worth the money if you're a brand new dog owner with no prior experience with them, but I doubt someone with past dog experience would get as much out of it.

Short, concise and chock full of wise & helpful advice. I highly recommended this book.

Easy to understand. Great pictures as well.

I originally got this book for my then 11 year old daughter to use with our lab puppy. The book's principals are easy to follow and effective. Now my daughter is an adult and wanted her own copy for a puppy she's getting. Since I kept hers, I ordered her a new one.

Dog training is not done in a brief time like 10 minutes and this book does not teach me how to do that. There are some good pointers for dog training included, but not what the title promises.
