Perfect Backup Option
This little fire starter is the perfect backup option to keep in a fire kit, EDC bag/pack, or just toss it in the car in case traffic jams have you camping out for a while. It's small, very lightweight, and seems tough enough to take some reasonable abuse. While I probably wouldn't use this as a primary kit, I wouldn't hesitate to add it in as a secondary option, keeping with the "two is one, one is none" rule of course! The tube that holds the rod has rubber o-rings to keep out moisture, so if you wanted to roll it up very small, you could keep a tiny bit of tinder in there as well I imagine.

The whistle is loud, the. flint. works good and the compass is small & generic but still works...
The media could not be loaded. The whistle is loud, the. flint. works good and the compass is small & generic but still works...I like the look and. feel of this unit. It came. with plenty of cord. In fact I cut a bunch of the cord off to make the whole thing a lot shorter and easier to carry. The included case, while not padded on the inside is still very nice. Theunit look and feels good and is very heavy duty. If taken care of it should last a long time.Overall two thumbs up and five stars.Good day & God Bless...Randall M. RueffK9RMR

Fire! Fire! FIRE!!!
I. Make. Fire!! Grunt, Grunt!!I continue to stockpile items for the apocalypse. This is just my latest acquisition. When the zombies are roaming the streets, citizens will be forced to start their own fires off the beaten paths. That's where this device comes in handy. There are no instructions for this, so figure it out yourself through trial and error or cheat and check out some videos on flint fire starters.I guess you could also use this while camping. If you're into roughing it. Me? I'll be using it to burn the pile of zombies that will pile up during the apocalypse.

Wonderful Small Addition to camping/hiking kit .
As a beginner hiker and camper I have absolutely fallen in love with this thing. Everything functions so well in such a small package. The whistle is not very loud but loud enough to find my buddies in the woods when we get lost straying off from each other. The flint and steel, after a few strikes works wonders. Everything is held together by watertight threads and comes apart when needed and doesn’t when you don’t need it to. The small form factor and included ruler on the striker/bottle opener is also a big plus. All in all, if you’re looking for a small cool useful addition to your hiking, camping, or EDC kit, this is a great pickup.

Multiple functions but none done well
While this tool has several multifunctional features, few of them work well, and its primary function as a fire starter is subpar.Cons:- The "compass" looks and feels like a cheap last-second add-on to include more features in the listing but to even call it a compass is probably too generous as it was at least 30 degrees off, at best.- The magnesium rod is coated with a paint-like substance that apparently needs to be scrapped off before it will spark.- Even after removing the coating, it can be difficult to consistently produce a decent spark. This is not helped by the fact that the rod is rather short (~4 cm) so there is not much striking area.Neutral:- The tool(s) are small and lightweight so they are very packable, but the small size also degrades some of the functionality.- The emergency whistle works ok, but isn't especially loud. It is also somewhat high-pitched and could easily be mistaken for or lost in the wind.- The scrapper/bottle opener tool works fine on its own but could be improved for use as a striker.

Good sparks
Once you know how to use a ferro rod you will be able to get good sparks from almost any rod. I like the aluminum housing for the rod as it keeps the rod protected while its in your bag. I did use a file on the scraper the sharpen the teeth a little and the compass is not the best. But the whistle is great!

Works Flawlessly - Strike The Magnesium With The Metal Scrapper, Not The Other Way Around
This is such a cool tool. The whistle is loud and piercing, the bottle opener works great, and the fire starter portion does the trick. The string included with it as well is useful!Make sure you strike the magnesium with the metal portion, not the other way around, otherwise you will only generate small amounts of heat/spark.Perfect for a backpack and or car glove box. Never hurts to be prepared!

Only for those experienced in using flint to start a fire
I'm a novice who's interested in survival tools but have not had any previous experience or training in using a flint to start a fire. I wanted to have some tools for safety when I start outdoor camping with my son. The compass and whistle are must haves. There were no instructions so I had to search and watched a few YouTube videos on how to use a similar item to make a fire. I was able to create sparks so it does the job of what its intended for. I think a basic instruction card would've been helpful hence the 4 stars.
