good information
We bought this book because of a low glycemic cookie recipe was in it. Our ten year old has type 1 diabetes. We have found that if we incorporate at least one low glycemic food in each of her meals, her blood sugar control is better. So, we got this book for some new ideas and recipes. She's always had a hard time with over night blood sugar control. The recipe for the peanut butter cookies has been a life saver! Now, she can have cookies while her siblings eat their cookies. No more sad face while watching her siblings eat dessert. Her A1C is better now because we've been able to incorporate low glycemic foods into her meals. This is always tricky because being a kid with diabetes means you have to monitor what you eat while making sure that you get the right amount of foods so that you grow and gain weight. Also, this book uses real food in the recipes, none of that icky fake sugar substitutes that will give you cancer!

The book is easy to read with a minimum of medical terminology
The book is easy to read with a minimum of medical terminology. It explains the glycemic index in considerable detail and then addresses a variety of foods, including the provision of glycemic ratings. For anyone who is pre-diabetic or diabetic, this book is a valuable aid. The higher one's A1C number is, the more important the book becomes. Recipes are included but if the reader understands the index and the foods like sugar and wheat that are the greatest offenders, the reader can use any cookbook and choose the preferred low glycemic recipes. Other cookbooks may not show glycemic numbers but that isn't necessary if the reader knows how the index works. I personally have dramatically reduced the white bread, chips, and potatoes I consume and look forward to my next bloodwork.

Healthy eating
This book has some great, easy to prepare recipes. These recipes are meant to keep your blood sugar stable throughout the day. No high spikes, no crashes. They really work! I have some autoimmune issues and by keeping my blood sugar stable, I've been more awake and have been sleeping better. I've also lost a few pounds. There are some recipes I don't like, but that's just a matter of taste. A great book to add to your collection or for anyone looking for a healthier way of eating. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because I didn't like ALL of the recipes.

Helpful
This cookbook was fun to read while I was hungry. Reading the recipes gave me a good idea of what I needed to change in my diet in order to helpful with my PCOD issues, without having to read into all the scientific stuff. I still intend to read on the science behind it, but this book gave me enough to get started with in the meanwhile, because I don't want to wait until I'm an expert to make important changes.

Great Cookbook
I usually order cookbooks and when I receive them, I only find a couple of recipes that work for me. This cookbook is much better. I found lots of recipes that work for eating the Glycemic Index way. The Mexican Bake is wonderful. You can spice it up as much as you want. It is really good the next day. I would recommend this book for those of us who shouldn't eat carbs for a medical reason or just a nice cookbook with lots of variety for those who don't have a medical problem. This would also make a nice gift for the cookbook lover.

Very American... Which is great if all you want to eat is Pancakes and takeaway-style dishes!
Very Americanised cookbook. All measured in cups to begin with. Also (excuse me if I'm wrong!) but whilst on a healthy-eating burst, I don't fancy being tempted with various 'naughty' dishes, such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos etc - that seems to be pretty much the whole of this book! Oh and numerous different pancake and syrup recipes for breakfast.
