The Classical Dutch may be your complete Black defense to nearly all White choices - excluding of course 1.e4, plus 1.b3, 1.b4, and 1.g4.Contrary to its reputation, it can work in practice, especially for (we) players in the sub-master classes.Try it with this book and Simon Williams’ excellent conceptual explanations. You’ll breathe a sigh of relief as you forget about all the other replies to the d4 family.

Great book. Explains things very well. I read the authors previous book on the Dutch, that also was very good. This new version is the best book on the Dutch defence. Not just a load of variations, he explains the ideas, and that's very important. With clear ideas, the moves all make sense, and the model games makes it easy to remember it all.

The Dutch is something a lot of people don't know
Another good Chess openings book by Simon Williams, this one on the Dutch for Black. Good crossovers to French in case all does not go to plan. I have a mini library of Simon's books (some with co-authors) and have found its a great way to build up a repertoire of solid openings for Black (and White).
