RØDEDeadCat VMPR Windshield for VideoMic Pro Artificial Fur Wind Shield Furry Cover

OK before we start . . . when I opened the package the kitten was already dead and had been embalmed and mummified . . . it seemed such a shame to break such a wonderful and expensive thing but needs must . . . and I must write a bit of a review . . . :)I bought this to fit on my recent purchase of the RØDE video stereo mic [which in itself is superb! but does need help with wind noise]What a difference.Wind noise almost eliminated but as far as I can tell it is totally transparent to everything else.Of course some sound lab tech guy will say that it does colour the sound but my ears cannot detect it.One thing to be aware of though is that the fur is around 50 - 60 mm long and depending on the placement of the microphone on the camera can result in occasional appearances of a bit of flapping fur in the top/side of your shot.If you shoot video outside and have the RØDE video stereo mic then you need this er . . . well like you need a dead kitten!The microphone is a true stereo mic and I use it on a Panasonic HC-X900 [which has very good sound capability - indoors; outdoors even the slightest breeze causes a lot of wind noise . . . as an aside comment there is a solution to this wind noise on this, and I guess other similar cameras - there are wind muffs available to fit onto the flatish surfaces where the microphones are sited. One is made by RØDE and the other is by MICROMUFF [Micromuff Fat Boy Wind Muffler ] and is available on Amazon for £12.95 - the Micromuff works well [I haven't used the one from RØDE but I have the DEADKITTEN and a muffler also from RØDE for Olympus LS-10 digital audio recorder and they work very well]

Not sure what people expect but for outside in light breeze situations it works fine. Fits well on the older Rode Video Pro mic. I can hear me breathing behind the mic when in use but didn't get any rumble noise from a constant 7 to 10 mph wind without using the high pass filter in a wide open space. If you need more wind protection then you should consider a proper gun mic with caged wind shield and isolation. It does fit well but make sure the dead cat goes under the mic as far as you can pull it along the isolation mount. It is tough to do and needs adjusting around the foam for a good fit. I can also get to the on off switch and gain switches without undoing the Velcro. Fiddly but do-able.

Certainly helps muffle wind and other noises but not the best out there in this price range

Really good bit of kit. Blocks out a lot of wind! I film on a golf course most of the time and there is no wind cover. Having this really helps!

If you have the slightest breeze it's going to get picked up by your shotgun mic. This dead cat helps reduce it, but not eliminate it. It's easy to fit and doesn't impact on the sound quality too much. A bit pricey for what it is though.

Bought these as lost a shield off a Rode Lav mic when all the kit had to be quickly moved to a new location during a shoot. As usual Rode charge a very reasonable price for accessories unlike a lot of brands.Basically just works on a LAV mic and is good value for money. You get 3 wind shields in the pack.

En general el Rode blimp parece bastante sólido; sin embargo, una de las palancas de apriete de la montura de pistola viene rota y no se queda en su lugar. Al parecer es un defecto de fabrica y Amazon no envía un reemplazo inmediato. He tenido experiencia comprando productos Rodé por esta plataforma y es la primera vez que el empaque llega enpolvadony golpeado.

No cats were harmed in this making, Im pretty sure. It gets the job done, really does a great job on cutting wind in recordings. It fits really snugly and not the easiest to put on and off but that kind of makes sense so it blocks out the wind. It's well made, good stitching and none of the "fur" has been falling out or anything like that. Check out my photos for a closer look and I hope this was helpful.

I need a mic that would plug into my iPhone 14 Pro Max and provide quality audio for live streaming a military retirement ceremony outside on top of a carrier. This rabbit, along with the Rode mic didn’t miss a beat. It was about 8-12mph winds and no audio issues and everything was clear and easy to understand. I highly recommend this product.
