MUELLER 44547 Ankle Stabilizer

I initially sprained my ankle and now have a paritally torn tendon, and am waiting for surgery. To prevent further tearing in the meantime, I've tried loads of ankle braces. This one is very comfortable and sturdy. It fits in all my shoes and is does not cause pain under my arch like others have. The four straps are very easy to adjust and the velcro is quite strong. I'm ordering a spare in case these are ever discontinued or out of stock.

My 15yr old son plays rugby at a high standard and playing and injuries at this level go hand in hand. He rolled his ankle recently and did a pretty decent job of picking up a sprained ankle. After the normal regime of Ice, Compression and Elevation we wanted to get something that would offer some support and reassurance as he hobbled around school. This was ordered and arrived ridiculously quickly in hassle free packaging. He's a size 9 and this fits perfectly. It's a bit of a squeeze getting his school shoes on, but he manages. He hasn't tried this with his rugby boots, but I don't envisage that being a problem. Initially, I thought this would be complicated putting on. I needn't have worried as there's a handy 'foot shape' to indicate where you place your heel before closing the velcro straps. There's also sewn in stabilizing straps to help prevent an inversion whilst wearing.I'll update this review when he has an opportunity to try it with his boots (hopefully before the end of the rugby season).So, at the moment, we're really pleased with this.

I had a bad ankle sprain from losing my footing coming out of the cinema in the dark (ouch).I bought this support several weeks after the incident, but I could not use it until my swelling went down, and I was able to bear weight on that foot properly, by which time this support was very useful.I only wore it when I needed to walk short distances. Leaving it on for much longer around the home wasn't entirely comfortable for me because of the metal at the sides of the support pressing against my tender ankle.There's a lot of room for adjustments, and this support fits either foot. It's quite slim compared to some, so can be worn easily with most footwear. I can recommend it for minor sprains and support. If you have a higher grade sprain like mine, it might pay to wait several weeks before trying to walk in this support. You need to be able to weight bear fully to get the most out of it.

I sprained my ankle quite badly and this is just the thing to keep it safe while it heals. Found I kept twisting my ankle in the one direction it hurt and setting my recovery back. This made a massive difference. I'd bought the stretch bandage supports before from the chemists, which weren't rigid enough. This is strong and supportive and the different straps mean you can align it to your own foot. Definitely recommend.

The positives: Good fast service, nice looking product (once you learn how to wrap it tidily), universal size & ambidextrous fitting; provide moderate support, are very easy to put on/remove and great value.The issues: Rigid side supports feel a little too far forward on the ankle and are a little more flexible side-to-side that I would have expected. Other braces I have tried really do stop my ankle rolling in/out, this does reduce it but I feel it could slacken with time. Also, unless you get the positioning just right, there are 2 thick seams across the arch of the foot and also an abrasive edge just below the Achilles above the heel - I haven't had much use yet but for the first few days they did dig in until I repositioned them - would have caused blisters if left any longer.If they cost more the issues would result in 2 stars.

This ankle brace was recommended to me by a physiotherapist after I sprained an ankle quite badly. One size fits all and there are 4 straps - two across the foot and two which reach from the foot around each ankle - you can adjust it to fit your foot and ankle. Within it on each side is a stiffener to prevent you going over on the ankle. It has given me lots of support and feels very safe. I have also hand washed it successfully. Recommended.

The ankle support was sturdy but also bulky and i found it impossible to wear with trainers.Being a keen runner it was impossible for me to do this whilst wearing the product.

This is a well constructed product that arrived in good time. The question is whether its effective for the purpose of protecting your ankle. Personally I think a simple sleeve that applies pressure is more effective than this product for what I needed. I found the brace uncomfortable while wearing shoes. More importantly, in order to have the brace prevent your ankle from turning over it needs to be strapped on tight - too tight to wear while playing sport. Otherwise there is a lot of give; If you put yourself in a position to roll your ankle its going to go over whether this brace was on or not. Therefore at the price I wouldn't buy this product again.
