A charger that runs cold with electronics that will last !
Me and the wife have been vaping for 4 years now and this is our fourth charger. The first one was a Trustfire that lasted for 16 months and then one of the channels went completely dark. It was also charging very slowly from the begging.Second was another Trustfire, that in less than 10 months stopped charging the batteries to full capacity. It was showing that the battery was charged but it was lying, battery was actually empty. I threw away a couple of perfectly good batteries before i realised that the charger was the culprit.Next i decided to spend a little bit more money and get the Nitecore I2 (2016 version) that is currently the only charger that utilises 1amp current. Yes it managed to charge my efest 3500mah in 2 hours but it was getting annoyingly hot in the process. I returned the charger straight away and wrote a critical review about that product. It is obvious that utilising 1amp current generates a lot of heat which means that the casing of the charger needs good ventilation or even a fan installed on it. Otherwise the electronics of the charger are going to fail extremely fast.I decided to buy a charger that works with 0.5 amp currents. The XTAR VC2 wins in every department:1) Utilises 0.5amps. That means the electronics are not strained at all. Very low heat generated.2) Furthermore, the ventilation holes are much bigger than the Nitecore one which was using 1amp current. I find this ridiculous for the nitecore charger. In any case the Xtar is running almost COLD to the touch.3) Beautiful cool looking LCD screen that provided actually useful information. You can tell if your batteries are charging at the full 0.5 amp or not. If not then probably it is the socket adaptor that is not providing enough current to the charger itself. I am using my Samsung S4 mini adaptor that is capable of outputing 1.1Amp current to the USB cable. That is more than enough for the XTAR charger.4) You can tell how much power (mah) has been charged to the battery. This in time will tell you how much your batteries will be degraded over time. Older, worn down batteries will not hold as much charge as new ones of the same type.5)It is charging fast (subjective term) but it is not as fast as the nitecore 1amp one. In any case the charging time should not matter to you as i explained before. Get yourself another set of batteries and don't rely on a charger working beyond it's capabilities to charge a battery in an hour risking a fire hazard. Better to get extra batteries now than spend the same money replacing failed chargers.I give this product 5/5 stars with flying colours. I have finally found the "perfect" charger.

XTAR VC2 Charger ...cheapest of the range, and a bit slow if you're in a hurry
Reliable charger, with useful tacho dials. I have recharged Aspire & Sony 18650 batteries thus far, and they have all worked fine. No overheating, either. Overcharge protection seems to work and the screen tells you when the battery is full, and once it is full the charger shuts off, and I understand it doesn't resume charging until voltage drops to 3.9V.But this charger's output is only 0.5A MAX per channel. If you are in more of a hurry I would recommend the XTAR VC2 Plus, which does 1A fast charging. Otherwise, this'll do for the price.

I may be old fashioned in some respects but I am very happy with this purchase and its sleek modern appearance
I received my XTAR VC2 today, together with a pair of 3,400mAh Protected type 18650 batteries, both of which I purchased here on Amazon just last night! I bought them for a torch which I've had for a month or so, due to the fact that the torch only came with 1 battery and a charger which plugs into a recessed hole in the body of the torch. While I wasn't unhappy with the performance of the torch (quite the contrary!) or its battery, call me old fashioned but I wanted a spare battery or two and a separate charger! I may be old fashioned in some respects but I am very happy with this purchase and its sleek modern appearance! After fully charging the new batteries (which always come partly pre-charged), the light output from the torch was noticeably brighter! Wow! This may be due to the higher discharge capacity of the new batteries, but at least I now know for sure that they were fully charged! As with most reviewers, I am a big fan of the display - the car-style illuminated meters which show the Voltage going over each battery, the total Amperes, and the counters which give a clear and specific numerical value of the charge it puts into each battery - keeping a running total of the exact number of milli-Amp-hours in flashing digits as it does so. When a battery is full this display changes slightly to alternate between the total charge given and the word "FULL".The fact that you can just put batteries in to charge in an evening (or any other time!) and just leave them to charge overnight, knowing that they will be fully charged (but not overcharged!), with all the relevant information still displayed when you come back to get them out in the morning (or whenever - you get the picture!), is an excellent feature! I had to leave my new batteries to charge for a while and when I got back I was happy to see that one was flashing "FULL" and the other quickly followed suit, with a display of exactly how many milli-Amp-hours it had taken the XTAR VC2 to fill them!Obviously I can't say anything about the longevity of this device now, but it came in a lightly padded drawstring bag which is an excellent fit and should provide protection from dust, splashes, and most light bumps, and all the features (aside from the re-activation function which I have not needed -yet!) are working as advertised. My major disclaimer is that I have no way of verifying the information on the display. All I can say is that the numbers given were what I expected, as I knew the input voltage and maximum possible Amperage, as well as the battery specifications and information about their behaviour.I have had one problem however (but it has nothing to do with the device, so the five stars remain) and that is the product registration! I hope it is just a computer/ internet hiccup and never will amount to anything, but...I was somewhat uncomfortable about filling in a form which demanded my email address, full name, Country, State / County, and City/Town, plus a password (twice), into a Chinese website, just to get permission to Register my XTAR VC2..Upon completing the form, a message appeared stating that an email had been sent to my email address and I must click on the link within the specified time (which would be specified in the email)..I immediately opened my email account and bingo! The email containing the (Very Long - 5 or 6 lines!) confirmation link was there - together with the time limit: 12 Hours. But when I clicked the link I was taken straight to a page which told me that I had not clicked the link within the correct time and must re-register all over again! (Between the email alert appearing and me clicking the link in the email, was probably close to 12 Seconds!) No thank you! I should have listened to my intuition! All I wanted was a Manual in English, because the one that was supplied was entirely in Chinese (I guess.. Apologies if I'm mistaken, but I am not familiar with the different Asian languages - especially not their different written forms). I shall look elsewhere for the English language Manual!
