More expensive than many - but actual works.
This has worked well since buying. I tried a cheaper version from another brand and it failed after just a few days - the picture quality was also poorer. So far I've been happy with this.

Just worked where another brand failed
This works great on an old machine with a Gigabyte motherboard where another brand of device would only briefly show the initial boot page.I can now see the initial boot page, edit BIOS settings and watch all the startup log information for the installed OS.The unit seems quite happy being powered from a USB power adapter (I'm not a fan of attaching peripherals to device USB ports without good reason).2022-01-02 update: for the resolutions I'm using it turns out this works just as well without USB power (i.e. leaving the USB connector disconnected)

Simple, reliable solution for VGA to HDMI
Excellent product. Had to change laptop resolution to work with 50" Panasonic TV, but worked fine and has worked OK with a couple of other monitor/TVs since. Very handy as many clients now have meeting rooms with large flat screens with HDMI inputs rather than projectors. It's well made which makes you feel it's going to be reliable and last.

It does work.
This item works great. Initially I had all sorts of problems trying to get it to work all of which were the fault of both Sony (for my Bravia) and Dell (for my Laptop) for failing to provide sufficient info in their user manuals. Also the Internet was no help, too many confusing options. Eventually I figured it out, pushed a relevant button that Sony had hidden away on the remote and there it was in all its glory, with sound via my speaker system. Montalbano and Death in Paradise here I come.

Impressive portable VGA to HDMI adapter
Works really well - in fact, works without USB plugged in, though that's advised as the unit may need extra power for some adaption (and you might need the sound via USB too). But better quality than I imagined. And very portable.

Hit & Miss If It Will Work
Disappointed. Hit and miss whether it will work. I'm a trainer and one of the sites I attend have now only a HDMI connection to the screen. My laptop has only VGA. I bought this adaptor and tested it on two home TV screens. One has three HDMI ports and the adaptor didn't work on any of them. Then tried it on another TV screen and only worked on one of three HDMI ports. I used two different laptops and got the same results. I contacted StarTech tech support and they could offer little advice as its a plug and play device. I ordered a replacement and got the same results so both are going to be returned.
