Mostly excellent lighting system
*Note - updated below after more recent purchases*I had to go with the GU10 bulbs as that's what my light fittings take. First, it's worth noting that these are rated slightly less bright than the bayonet or screw Hue bulbs, despite being the same price. However, they are still quite bright - as bright as other GU10 LED bulbs I've had, and certainly bright enough to light a room for normal use. In size, they are much deeper than most similar bulbs, so probably unsuitable for recessed light fittings (or at least, they will protrude). They produce the full range of white light (very cool to very warm), and most colours. However, as others have noted, they will NOT produce most shades of green or light blue. If you set them to 'green' using an app, they will produce either an acid/sap yellow-green, or a greenish white. Similarly, they can only produce very pale bluish white, not cyan or mid blues. They can, however, do a very deep dark blue, verging on indigo (they emit some UV at this setting, making fluorescent paint glow). All the other colours are fine - orange, yellow, magenta, purple, etc. If you want strong greens, then pair them with the lightstrip and/or Bloom lamp as I have (*note* see update below). Note also they can get quite hot in use - but not quite as hot as halogen GU10 bulbs. Apparently this is normal.*Update*With the release of the 'Richer Colors' bulbs, this system is now mature and I have very few reservations in recommending it. It is still very expensive, but there are occasional special offers, and that can save a fair bit. The Richer Colors bulbs now produce bright light in every colour - including blues, greens, cyan and turquoise that were previously not possible. I only hope they update the GU10 bulbs in the same fashion. Finally, it's a pity there are no perfect Hue apps - the official one is good for setting the lights quickly one by one, or creating 'moods', but you need two or three other apps to really cover everything you might want to do with them; I hope a proper programmable party/disco app is developed, as that is the one missing capability at present.

Another way for me to be lazy. Philips HUE has an app that allows you to control your lights
The media could not be loaded. I Love these lights, They work perfectly. Another way to make life easier and lazy for me. I don't have to get up to turn the lights off and I can chose different colour for my lights. Yes it does cost a lot, one Philips bulb does cost about 50 pounds, so i recommend you to buy the pack which is about 150 pounds with includes three bulbs and a HUE bridge.First make sure what bulbs work in your house, as for example in my room, I use GU10 halogen Spot Light Bulbs and I was lucky as Philips do halogen GU10 Spot Light bulbs for my room. So that is the first important thing that you need to know before buying these lights as they are still new and limited.Philips Have done a very good job with these lights and especially creating an app that allows me to use my mobile phone to control the lights in my bedroom and changing the colours of the lights. Also what makes this even better is that Amazon and Philips have worked together to allow the Amazon Echo Dot to also work with the Philips Hue Lights. So you can say to Alexa which is the Amazon Echo Dot, turn the lights off and turn the lights on.What really make this worth the purchase is that Amazon have created a really good app that allows you to do lots of things to make your life easier and have a routine. So these are some of the cool things that you can do with these lights as shown below1) Home & Away2) Wake Up3) Go to Sleep4) My RoutinesWhen thing I will say is that when more than one person is using these LED Lights and you are using just one bridge, Only one person can use number 1 to 3 features. So I would suggest that you make sure if you have a good internet, you should be using two hue bridges instead of one so you both don't mix or delete each other wake up or sleep routines. I do have another bridge that I could use but due to me being upstairs, sometimes the internet does not come up, so what I do is I go to my routines and just created three of them for me.When your doing these setups, you can set the time you, day and type of light effect you may want depending on if its morning or nighttime. So let me give you an example on how this works. So if I want to create a routine like going to sleep, So you need to click on the plus icon, first chose the time you want the lights to turn off, so for example I would like the lights to turn off at 12:30am at night, then chose what days you want this to keep on happening. In the section that says fade, you have an option on how you want the lights to turn off, so If I select Instant, then the lights will turn off quickly. If I select 10 minutes, then leading to the 10 minutes the lights will slowly fade and turn off. Then in the section that says where, you need to make sure that you select the right room that you want the lights to turn off as lets say that somebody else in your house is also using these LED Philips HUE Lights, so you don't want to turn their lights off. Make sure that you assign your room only to this routine. Once you have selected the room you want the lights to turn off, you then can turn the lights off by selecting off. Once you do this, whenever it is 12:30am the lights in your room will turn off. Now, if you want to turn the lights on so when you wake up the light would have already turned on, then all you need to do is follow the same steps but instead of selecting turn the lights off, you would just need to chose what kind of light you want. So since its early morning I would like to have very bright white lights by selecting "Concentrate" which is a very bright white light. So I totally recommend that you should buy these lights just make sure you know what lights you have as most LED lights might not work and make sure that they are Philips HUE Brand.

High price but worth it for quality and function
This was my first foray in to a wired home and it couldn't have been easier. A few simple instructions that at printed on the inside cover of the box and that's it. Easy peasey. The app makes it easy to add new bulbs, set up which bulbs are in a group or "room" and how siri (in iOS) can interact with it.For example we have 3 groups of lights in the lounge, the lamps, the wall lights and the "big" lights. So each of those is set up as it's own room and can be controlled individually. Then other rooms or Hall lights can be added and given their own group as well. All very easy with the app.The only thing to get used to is using the app to control the lights all the time. Unless you get switches you have to open your app every time you want to put the lights on. The low energy, long lasting bulbs sure make it worth it as well. The fact that I won't need to change them for 15 years makes it worth while.
