Fantastic Film The film looks amazing from the box cover ...
Fantastic FilmThe film looks amazing from the box cover to the final titles only two extras though. The movie is really Scarlett Johansson's as is expected she knows what she is doing and dose it very well The rest of the cast is OK but I have to say they are not on screen a lot, Oh and the movie must have been funded from chine? there are a lot of subtitles bit of a pain to be honest. The idea of the story is good but as the movie progresses is off it sort of contradicts its self in the scientific ideas and the plot but its a si-fi film so it can be a mix up if it wants. Now one other thing the baddie they are well a bit I don't know overly graphic and shouty, but in comparison to the heroine they are frankly nothing he hasn't got a chance. The film has one big problem its the plot it doesn't seem to flow it gets confused and can't work out how to go from the great start point to one of the possible end points its weird but it has three plots the drug, the brain and relationships they never mesh. Now Luc Besson can do si-fi see The Fifth Element but here we see how good J.J. Abrams and Peter Jackson are I don't know how they work but the si-fi fantasy films they have done the plot work all the different bits meshNow is this a film to bye if the price is in the £5/£6 range you should get it its good but not as good The Fifth Element. If like me you are a Scarlett Johansson fan get it this is in part the Black Widow film we were told was a possibility and I guess why there isn't one you don't copy cat at Marvel plus a sex bomb mummy not likely. If you have films like Push or Jumper get this the idea is good the cast are great and the look is brilliant though lot of stock film footage used cost motivated probably.I gave if five stars because I like Scarlett Johansson her performance was fantastic I like the plot idea in addition the movie looks great and the action stuff is OK. so bye it when the Price Is Right and see if you agree

This is a really excellent film that I watched on Netflix but was about to be withdrawn. Now I can watch as much as I want in future. It was a really good price.

Time is everything, time has disillusioned this film
The human brain is already 100% active. It always has been always will be. There is very little waste on the human body. Most features came about for a particular function. Men's nipples for example may seem pointless but in the past they would likely have been in use it is just we haven't gotten rid of them yet.The brain on the other hand is all in use just not all of it is in use at all times. I don't know why/where this idea of unlocking the brain's potential came about but it has been for a while now shown to be untrue using fMRI scans. If we actually used all of our brain at the same time every muscle and part of our bodies would be activated at the same time. So basically you would collapse onto the floor twitching and likely evacuate your bowels and bladder all over yourself. The movie is quite basic. Lucy is a girl who gets scammed into taking a briefcase up to a hotel room with a Chinese gangster in it. The man scamming her immediately gets shot and she ends up with drugs implanted into her intestines. Problem is a bit later a henchman of these guys beats her by kicking her in the stomach which punctures the bag and releases this chemical into her body. This is what unlocks the 90% of her brain that is supposedly unavailable to the average human. The movie toys a lot with some quite great ideas. Such as the creation of the universe, the evolution of man, the creation of the earth itself and even weaves some of Einstein's Theory of Relativity into itself. Einstein doesn't get mentioned though. This movie I felt could have done so much more than it did with all of this. The movie itself sets itself up well and it flows nicely. I think Scarlet Johansson's performance of this emotionally detached god like entity was excellent but the movie never really delivers much of a kick in the end.She basically goes from place to place searching for several other bags of these drugs (also implanted into the intestines of an unlucky drug mule) so she can reach the 100% of her brain. She gets the bags and goes and finds Morgan Freeman a scientist who has been hypothesising the 10% of the human brain theory. So he is basically the most equipped person to handle it. Though he basically doesn't do anything except tell Lucy to store her knowledge for future human's to use. All he really does is set up some IVs and stand there. This movie does go the whole super powers at a single thought approach. Unlike movies such as Limitless which follow a very similar path but feel a lot more grounded in the every day, this is like it has been lifted straight from the list of Greek Gods. Lucy can manipulate electric and magnetic fields, and this doesn't seem to be effected by distance. Yet one of the things she can't do or at least didn't do in the movie was teleport. She still seemed to be stuck taking planes and cars around.Overall I think it sold itself short in the overall pinnacle and finale of the movie but there is definitely entertainment to be got from the movie. Most of the value for me did come from its thought provoking ideas more than anything but then again I'm a nerd and really like that stuff.

Ok - divides opinion - but it will be seen as great in about 10 years time
Yes I am a biased Luc Besson Fan (he remains one of my top 5 directors ever).I applauded this film after watching - only did that with Leon so far but Fifth Element and Angela came pretty close too.Besson has the knack of having real fun with the camera - and his style and vision comes through very strongly in this film.I felt I was seeing bits of my fave bits from his other films, with the added bonus of a child-like fascination for a scientific concept being played around with. I connected with the story - did not look away from the screen - and I did not - I repeat - did not find the ending ridiculous.I did however find it completely preposterous - which is what Luc is also very good at (think Fifth element camp comedy / Gautier fashion mashup, meets Leons evil detective, meets little clips of Subway punk / meets the angel Angela showing us the meaning of existence.....through the eyes of a director who cares about the story ALOT).I wrote a poem afterwords - a pretty good one too - which means I felt pretty inspired. I wont share it with you though. The acting is very good - I like the french cop, and the drug boss is a great actor too - on par with Gary Oldman in class I think. This film will stay in our collective conscience - because it plays with both the science and mythologies we all all juggle about with in our heads - whilst landing us with some typically boyish Besson cinema tricks which when done this well are really enjoyable to behold. It is the camp side of intelligent / adventurous / action / sci fi - Yes it is. But this is what makes Luc Besson the director Luc Besson the great director.Cant ask for more than that.
