Amazing Piece Of Kit
I've been meaning to get acquainted with the raspberry pi, but never found the time. Furlough happens, so I bought this starter kit to go along with a newly purchased LABISTS Raspberry Pi 4 B Model B. The main things I like about the kit are: 1. All parts accounted present. 2. Great instructional PDF, with instructions written in clear, simple English. 3. Good descriptions of working principles. 4. Beautifully clear circuit diagrams with a simple picture diagram of how it should physically look as well. During the set up of a couple of circuits, I encountered some issues so emailed their support team and I was fortunate enough to deal with Denzel, who is prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable enough to solve the issues raised (a simple coding error and wrong piece used on my part). Denzel is definitely an asset to the Freenove team. All the accompanying code is available and easy to download. So far I've probably completed about 70% of the projects and no errors with any of the code. I have encountered an issue with the breadboard power module, which looks to be faulty. Electronics are not perfect, so these things happen. I emailed Denzel, and after checking the leads for faults, he is going to send out a replacement. No hassle, no fuss. I've spent quite a few fun hours simply completing the projects. Once done I plan to revisit them to get a more thorough understanding of the actual electronics, then start creating some more complex systems by combining different project components. If you have a raspberry pi and would like to see just how versatile it it, I would definitely recommend this ultimate starter pack.

Excellent value, good quality, buy one!
Frankly, I don't know how they can provide this at the price. It comes in a 6" x 9" plastic case, crammed full of various quality bits and pieces - so full it's like a puzzle to get them all back in! The associated pdf tutorial (available to download on the Freenove website) is almost 300 pages and seems pretty comprehensive, has plenty of very clear colour illustrations of the 'this-goes-there, plug-this-in-here' type to get you started. There are basic informative wiki's on things like LED's, motors and stepper motors, and basic electronics. It also has circuit diagrams, and full listings in both 'c' and Python for the supplied program files, even a how-to on getting a Raspberry Pi going in the first place (but note the Pi is not included). Device datasheets are also provided. That said, I'm not sure it's for a *complete* beginner, if you have been using a Pi for a while and ideally know a little 'c' and/or Python, it would help. And it's fun... I wish I'd had one as a teenager !

Impossible to complain, for twenty quid
I should point out from the start that I bought this kit to plunder for parts. I got it in the "black Friday" sale for £22 delivered -- all I really wanted were the ADC modules and display parts, and these would have been more expensive separately. In fact, the kit contains a heap of parts -- motors, sensors, LEDs of various types, a six-inch breadboard, etc. There's a huge number of jumper wires, which always come in useful. There's also a "breadboard power module" whose function is unclear to me. I think it provides 3.3 and 5V power rails from a 9V battery. I guess this could be useful if you don't want to draw power from the Pi when working on more power-hungry applications. It only has the most rudimentary description in the tutorial [*]. Anyway, I haven't used it, and can't comment on it. Although it's not of huge interest to me, I looked at the tutorials. There are examples for C and Python, and the explanations are pretty extensive, in the sense of "now connect this to that." There's a lengthy section on setting up the Pi platform, which is only meaningful if you're running Raspbian or something very like it (I guess most hobbyists are). There are even fairly detailed explanations of how things work (like analog-to-digital converters), in an overview sense. If you're a newcomer, I think you'd need to supplement these instructions with a decent textbook, but they're certainly a good introduction. To my way of thinking, the software examples provided are useless for explaining how to program for external devices. The expamples I tried worked fine, but they all hide the interesting technical details inside libraries. If you really want to know, for example, how to use an I2C sensor in C, you're going to have to look elsewhere ( perhaps on my website ;) ) In addition, most of the C examples use the WiringPi library, which is no longer maintained, and increasingly hard to find. That doesn't bother me, but I think it will bother people who just want to follow the instructions and see stuff working. All in all, at even the regular price, this is a good source of parts for the Pi tinkerer, and may be a good instructional resource for somebody who wants to broad introduction to Pi interfacing. Just don't expect much educational value in the the software examples. [*] Edited to add -- actually, I looked more carefully, and actually there is a more detailed description of this part in the tutorial -- I just didn't see it at first, because I wasn't really looking. Sorry.

I was searching online on a good beginner kit for me to test out, and this is where I landed. I found that the kit had easy to understand instructions as nice to watch videos. I also enjoyed that the kit included a variety of wires, resistors and gadgets. I am thoroughly happy with my purchase.

Its a lot of fun, good way to learn more about Raspberry GPIO and Python. If you have newer version of PI OS you need to use tutorial file named: Tutorial_GPIOZero.pdf Some instruction and images needs to be updated, there are some instructions that are not 100% correct but still manageable and easy to use.
