I have a small 6 litre compressor will this work for upholstry on a small scale please?

Yes it should be more than sufficient as the gun only needs 0.4cfm of air per stroke, and 6ltr compressors normally range from around 5 to 6 cfm. I currently use it with a 14.5cfm 100ltr compressor and it takes quite a long time of constant use before the compressor fires up to refill the tank.

What are the width of staples this will take please?

Type 71 staples which have a 9mm crown, 22 gauge thickness, length 8 / 10 / or 12mm, 5000 in a box.

It uses type 71 staples which are 9mm or 3/8" across the top. It is often used for upholstery.
