Superior Reel
I now own three of this type of reel. Although they are more expensive than reels I have used in the past, they are also much better. Cast beautifully, very smooth retrieve.

Daiwa Ballistic 1000
My dad always sold me on Daiwa SS700 spinning reels and we have never had a major issue out of any of the 10 we probably have. We fish custom made Loomis rods and I wanted to let my boy have his own thing. I bought him a Custom rod made from an Exceller Pheonix blank and got him the ballistic 1000. So far no complaints. It is smooth as silk and at almost 2 ounces lighter than the 700, it is a very nice real. No complaints for letting him switch to the ballistic.

Nice reel, but probably not worth the money
Very nice reel, but probably not worth the price...easy to find a equal quality reel for just over $100

Superb Reel
I use Diawas almost exclusively. I use them for smallmouth, drum, carp, panfish, steelhead, largemouth, walleye - mainly in rivers. I load all of them with either 2x10 or 6x20 Power Pro Braid line. I'm out in all weather and 8 months of the year. They have not failed me. The ballistics are my faves; smooth casting, retrieves, drag. Excellent reel for the money.

Excellent fishing reel
Excellent spinning reel, I have 4 lb braided line on it for trout fishing. The real hasn't missed a beat and I love the way it handles. Definitely a well made real built to handle everything I throw at it.

6 months of weekend warrioring
Honest review, I wouldn’t buy this again. 2-3 months into regular weekend use (kayaking but always took great care, lightly washed down after, never submerged) the reel started locking. When I say locking I mean like super glue locked. It’ll happen intermittently. Then the air rotor went totally shot and it sounded like metal on metal grinding with every real turn. I’m now less than 6 months and the anti reverse clutch is totally shot. Magseal is a gimmick btw it doesn’t do anything in terms of sealing physical components, just keeps water from running down your arbor into the reel shaft which probably happens to like .1% of people. Going right back to Penn.
