It's a genuinely multipurpose tool.
I'm not usually a fan of multitools and fancy penknives, because I think they're missing the point; the average buyer doesn't actually *need* to carry a fish-scaler, a parachute cord winder, and a rifle barrel reamer around with them all day. Most multitools on the market aren't really *tools* so much as a bizarre collectable for the kind of guy who likes the word "tactical" and owns more torches than strictly necessary. To me, genuinely useful & versatile tools would be (a) adjustable locking pliers (aka Mole-grips / Vise-grips), and (b) a set of 1/4" hex bits with a hex bit driver. Plus maybe a knife and a screwdriver. Real people can perform a lot more day-to-day tasks with those. I noticed that the Leatherman Crunch has just that, so I overcame my concerns and bought one; and I'm really very impressed with it.The Crunch's locking pliers aren't full size, but they're big enough, and good for a hundred uses - wrenching, cutting, pulling, wirestripping, clamping two workpieces together &c - and you can bring your own choice of hex bits (for me, it's screwdrivers around the house, allen keys for my bike, and metric sockets for the car). Plus, the Crunch includes the usual knife, file, and common screwdrivers; all of them are robust, and lockable. The Leatherman Crunch is a very practical combination in a small package; it's got more of what I need, and less of what I don't. There are no separate bits that could fall out and get lost, although you'll probably want to bring some hex bits along in a separate holder. Build quality is very solid, grip is comfortable, and attention to detail is impressive. The pliers are the most impressive part; well sprung, strong construction, natural feel - and I'm very impressed by how compact they fold up.There's also a lanyard loop, but this not the kind of micro-tool that dangles on your keyring.Stop browsing overpriced matt-black-anodised titanium special-forces knife, fork & spoon sets. Buy a Leatherman Crunch instead; it's a genuinely multipurpose tool. This is what all multitools *should* be.

Leatherman 'Crunch'
This is a great product, I own several `Leatherman' look-a-likes which I keep in different locations, but recently I was asked to complete a job at a friends house who lent me his `Crunch' multi tool as he had no other tools to hand. Immediately you opened it the tool had a quality feel, and the various blades all performed well. The most impressive device is the gripping plier which will serve a multitude of purposes, and the double sided file is also a serious tool that works properly. I was so impressed that on returning home I researched the best price, and placed an order with a Amazon merchant. If you want a quality multi tool that is really useful, treat yourself! You won't be disappointed. One last point it's worth reading the instruction sheet. The tool has a few functions that are not immediately obvious.

Unique and capable
Well, it's unique. Maybe there aren't as many tools on the Crunch as some other multi-tools but the hex driver built into the handle makes up for it. I carry a dozen hex bits, a 1/4" drive adaptor and a handful of sockets. The self locking plier head replaces normal pliers, adjustable spanner and combination wrenches. One of these tools saved me one day when the battery earth strap sheared off on my chop, I rode all the way home with the earth strap clamped to an engine casing with the Crunch - find me another multi-tool that will do that! The only thing to bear in mind is that because of the locking blade it's not UK EDC legal, you will need to have a justification for carrying the crunch in public. Some people remove the knife blade and carry a SAK to complement but I can't be doing with that. I removed the blade and attached it to the outside of the handle, with a blade parking silo attached to the bottom. The blade now opens with a tang welded to the backstrap and I made up a knurled nut to adjust the tension. This is a truly unique tool, I've got seven of them now....

Leatherman Crunch
Bought to replace my 20 year old leatherman, which gave me excellent service and is still in fair condition but has had a very hard life. Hopefully this one will still be giving equally good service when my retirement comes around

Best multitool innovation and a great tool
I remember when this came out and I wanted one... I then put it off for many years due to the cost... and they got more expensive. I was then informed that the Crunch was being discontinued by Leatherman and decided that it was now or never. I used these at work for many years prior to owning my own so was well aware of the great quality and robustness. This is a unique tool that really does work as it is supposed to... it is not a gimmick!

This is Great.
Brought it for my son for his birthday..to say he loves it is an understatement..it goes everywhere with him. He has brought extra bits for it and an attachment for his belt..'bout the only thing he hasnt done, is give it a name! Like all leatherman products, its well made, it does a great job and i am happy as well..he gave me his old one! LOL

Great tool but quality varies
Only 3 stars as 2 out of 3 knives had faults. First return due to blade locking mechanism not working correctly. Second return due to one floppy handle as not riveted correctly. The third knife I received is great but do check over carefully as quality clearly varies. Amazon's return service is brilliant. No quibble, but I did have to place a new order each time as there was no 'replacement' option only 'return'.

Tried and true multi tool.
I like it that much that this is my second one - the original is now residing in our second home abroad after eleven years of good faithful service. Small issues like no can opener, a redundant blade or two (never did figure out or need to figure out the two smaller blades). Having the ability to lock the jaws onto a piece of work I am doing and perhaps leave it there is a great boon for me - i.e., glue something together and have to leave it for up to thirty minutes to set? No problem, adjust the jaws and lock the parts together and come back in thirty minutes and all done.
