The book is very wordy, but important ideas are not really carved out. They might be mentioned, but since there is so much text and there is no distinction between "just text" and "this is important", I repeatedly missed important key points and had to spend time re-reading many parts. I think this could easily be improved. Major point: Formulae are given without explanation where they come from. This is so disappointing for a math book! This really prevents from building a strong foundation of the topic which is clearly not the formulae which you can always look up, but the underlying ideas which led to the formulae. I feel like this is a typical school book where kids are taught algorithms but not a profound understanding. So it teaches you how to do things but often (sometimes it does) not really why. I'm not saying this book is totally useless. I like very much, that there are basic numerical examples. This you can often not find in other books, so here, the authors make an effort and take your hand to help you relate a formula to a real use case, which I appreciate. Also the book covers a lot of material! If there is no time to explain where a concept came from, the authors could add a reference for the reader to learn more about the topic. All in all I'd say a standard math book that could be improved to be a great book by a good editing process. Of course, this is my personal opinion and other people with other goals, e.g. who want to learn how without bothering about every why, may find this book excellent. So - its all relative.

This book happened me really understand statistics on a much deeper and fundamental level that my college stats professor did. It has equation summaries that gives you all of the equations you need and is packed full of examples and statistical real world analysis. Would highly recommend, especially if your professor leaves you feeling lost. Helped me get an A in statistics.
