Not a Bolt In Item
I purchased the J5109 spring shackles. It took me about four hours to install them. I had a lot of problems with the product installing them on the front springs of my 1995 Jeep Wrangler.Problem one: The bolt that goes through the spring bushing on my vehicle is 9/16" diameter and the hole in the shackles are 1/2" diameter. I had to drill out the hole in the shackle that I wanted to use on the spring side. No where in the instructions or product description did it say that I would have to drill out the shackle holes. I can't use the 1/2" bolt in a 9/16" hole.........too much slop. The kit should have included a stainless steel sleeve to slide into the spring bushing to downsize the hole to accept a 1/2" bolt. My front springs are SkyJacker springs.Problem two: The bolts provided in the kit are barely long enough. I had to leave the flat washers off to get one thread sticking through the lock nut.Problem three: The center shackle spacer had hard contact with the frame bushing flange. I had to take the shackle back off and grind the lip off the frame bushing flange. Again, nothing in the instructions about having to grind the lip off the frame bushing flange.Problem four: The bolts supplied in the kit look like something purchased from a hardware store. Totally unacceptable. Need to go to McMaster.com and purchase professional looking bolts. That's what I'm going to have to do to make this installation look professional. The kit should have come with flange head nuts and bolts, not some gold colored bolts from a hardware store. It was a very frustrating installing a simple part like a set of spring shackle. It should have taken 1/2 hour..........I spent 4 frustrating hours getting these things to work.
