Easily the coolest looking m.2 enclosure I've ever used -- the pictures definitely reflect what you'll get and really, the aesthetics are the main reason to buy this. However the display is surprisingly useful, showing information about the attached drive during idle and current transfer speeds when reading or writing. Of course, this is information that is usually easy to see on the device the drive is connected to, but again, cool factor. The power loss prevention is also very effective -- the drive has a solid few seconds to finish up moving anything from its built in DRAM to its primary storage. The downside of this neat display and large capacitor are an increased overall power draw. If you want to connect this to a portable device like a phone, you may need to make use of the secondary USB-C port for additional power. (This has not been a problem on any laptop or desktop I've used so far.) Drive install was very easy and an additional screw is included if you lose one -- much appreciated, since the screws appear to be a custom job with a really nicely machined top. There are cheaper enclosures that you can buy that will match this one in performance for sure, but few approach it in aesthetics, and maybe the power loss prevention will come in handy one day.

However, I would highly recommend that you include the need to plug the enclosure into an external power source in your starters guide booklet. All that said, I will gladly ammend my comment as it is not accurate. I appreciate the lengths you went to in order to rectify this, that speaks volumes to your integrity. "My initial experience was not good, I was only getting speeds around 50Mbps. I ended up returning it as I thought it was a scam or something, but DockCase reached out almost immediately trying to diagnose what went wrong. The issue ended up being that I didn't have the enclosure plugged into external power, though it didn't specify in their quick start guide to do so (hopefully that gets changed). They sent me a replacement and it lives up to their claims and them some! It uses a Beryl Electric Double Layer supercapacitor (EDLCON), Realtek USB controller, and the body and heat sink appears to be from a milled block of aluminum. Even the screws are stainless steel. The spared no expense in building this enclosure, giving it high end performance and high end appearance. I would be happy to recommend this to anyone looking for performance.

NOTE: a major reason for buying this instead of a cheaper enclosure is the capacitor - if power goes out, the data is still protected for a short time. NOTE: this enclosure DOES NOT allow firmware updates to the NVME drive within - this is a limitation of the USB protocol, not with the enclosure itself. Very handy, would buy again. Excellent packaging. Very sturdy. Love the display on the front, very versatile - can get fairly detailed info on the name drive inside without having to plug into a PC. Not the easiest thing to screw and unscrew the actual NVME drives from the enclosure - but that's just how NVME drives are designed to be mounted, and has nothing to do with the enclosure. The enclosure itself is very well made - I would have no concerns with just throwing it in my pocket or a backpack or bag and traveling with it. Transfer speeds are NOT always 10GB/s - that's entirely normal for ALL hard drives and SSDs - but transfer speeds were solid for me on my USB 3.1 spec.

This thing is great! I've gone through a lot of expensive external drives and enclosures for my work, but this one stands out. This is a solid enclosure to protect the drive of my choice, the transfer speeds are fantastic, and the screen is surprisingly more useful than I thought it would be. It holds a charge for a few seconds, in case it gets disconnected, but I haven't run into a situation where I needed that.

Just like when I received the DOCKCASE Pocket M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, this DOCKCASE Explorer Edition M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure is another premium product that combines cutting-edge technology with a stylish and functional design. It surely stands out with its transparent cover that reveals the internal circuitry, giving it a modern and tech-forward aesthetic. The robust aluminum alloy frame not only enhances durability – I’m sure it serves as a heat dissipation. This enclosure truly goes beyond basic functionality with features like real-time monitoring via its innovative built-in display, i.e., having the ability to show my SSD health, performance metrics, and temperature at a glance is quite an incentive. It added advanced protection against power failures, which safeguards my data during unexpected interruptions of any kind. Installing an NVMe SSD was straightforward using one of the two screws that were included along with the screwdriver. Then I ran Windows Disk Management to partition and format my SSD to get it ready for data transfer. Before that, I originally purchased a 2TB WD Black SN850X with a heatsink, unfortunately it did not physically fit. Then I purchased a 2TB WD Black SN770, it seemed to have worked fine. However, after contacting DOCKCASE tech support (I must say is amazingly promptly responsive) about coming across the inability to use the WD Dashboard to check the SSD firmware update, I was informed to do that, the user needs to use a Thunderbolt-certified enclosure or insert the SSD directly into the PC mainboard. They also highlighted that I should be selecting an SSD from among the compatibility listed in their Amazon ad rolling screen below (which I overlooked). So I ended up purchasing a third SSD, a 2TB Corsair MP600 PRO NH. In summary, having the USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, this enclosure an impressive data transfer speeds for large file transfers, it combines style, functionality, and reliability. Its innovative features and high-quality build make it stand out in a crowded market. While minor improvements could be made to the documentation, it’s a top-notch choice for anyone who needs a reliable and high-performance SSD enclosure. Overall, this enclosure offers a great mix of style, innovation, and practicality. The only disadvantage I discovered was, that updating the DOCKCASE enclosure firmware is only available by contacting tech support, not directly online.

This Dockcase see-through enclosure is really unique looking. 👀 The large dissipation area ensures your SSD will stay cool and last a long time. ❄️ I tested the speed on my laptop and got 950mb/s which is really good for an external enclosure. Please make sure you install a SMART compatible SSD if you want to benefit from the real-time information on the display. Also, use the cable that comes in the box for maximum compatibility.
