The Political Thought of Xi Jinping Hardcover – 9 Jan. 2024

Really excellent analysis of the key tenets of Xi Jinping Thought (with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era...) and how it directly shapes policy making and directs long term societal trends. For a very dense subject, book is surprisingly readable.

While doing my master’s degree in international relations, I completed a master’s thesis on Xi Jinping Thought (which, like the authors, I shortened to Xi Thought). I considered writing a book on the subject since there wasn’t a lot in English, but I no longer feel the need. This book fills every gap that was present. Well written and informative, it is the quintessential English source in Xi Thought.The authors put Xi’s political thought in a consultative Leninist paradigm and define that context clearly. Each chapter elucidates a little more and puts Xi thought front and center in China’s current transformation. I consider it a must read.

China's attitude and tactics are set out clearly in this book. It should be required reading for those of us living in democratic countries as our way of life is now under threat from a Marxist dictatorship and unfortunately we have lost domestic industries and must now rely on China for most of our consumer goods and automobiles, particularly spare parts. We can be held to ransom because of this reliance and also selling raw materials to China can be interrupted by their propensity to levy high tariffs at short notice if we criticize their human rights policies which include slavery.
