The traditional perm is a liquid type. There are some safeguards to drips such as the type of paper that is used and some come with paper to wrap around the front of the face (drip guard). The foam forms similiar to the mouse hair products. This is meant to keep the product from dripping.

whats all inside the box?

Everything you need EXCEPT the perm rods. I use to give my Mom perms every 4-5 months, and she had a shoe box of different sized rods. She always insisted on the Ogilvie perm. Good perm!

Does "heat activated" mean I'll need a hood hair dryer or can I get by with a blow dryer? Advance thanks!

the "heat activated" is in the solution... 2 bottles are mixed together creating "heat". Pleased with results.
