Is this adapter plate magnetic or just metal to attach to magsafe rings and phones?

Hello, Our magnetic round base basic made of plastic and it built-in compatible with MagSafe magnets. So you can magnetically attach it to MagSafe phones or MagSafe cases, when you've fixed a popsocket phone grip on it, it allows you use your popsocket removable and reposition.

The MagSafe device usually refers to or MagSafe case usually refers to cell phones （iPhone 15 series 14 series 13 series 12 series）or cell phone accessory (case, wallet ect.) with built-in MagSafe technology magnets.

Hello, Just as you would attach popsocket to a phone case or the back of a phone with adhesive, the strength of the adhesive makes it less likely to be removed from the surface of our magnetic base.
But popsocket popgrip come with a removable adhesive base, and you can still remove and replace the poptop of your popsocket by rotating it. Hope this helps you.

Is this only for phones that already have a magnet built in?Can I buy a magnet disc to use it for quick detach of my popsocket for wireless charging?

Hello, not recommended to use magnet disc with your phone for use this magsafe pop base.
----------The best advantage of iPhone 12 series magsafe function is precise positioning！

The following is reasons, 
If the magnet disc you mentioned refers to magsafe magnet ring or magnetic metal ring.
It is usable in theory, but the biggest problem is that you cannot accurately place the magsafe magnet ring on the wireless charging receiving coil on the back of the phone. 
The wireless charging receiving coil on the back of the phone and the transmitting coil of the wireless charger cannot face each other accurately. This will cause problems such as heat generation during the charging of the mobile phone and reduced charging efficiency.

----------We recommend iPhone 12 series users using the magsafe base with the corresponding phone model magsafe phone case, other brand mobile phone users use the magsafe function phone case of your existing phone model.
