This is the best filter. Keeps turtle tank cleaner longer than any I've had before.

This makes emptying my tank of water so much easier. I connect a tube to the filter and it empties for me. It is worth getting this rather than the regular filter. I wasn't a fan of the type of filter cartridge that this requires (yes, the cartridges are more expensive than the regular ones) but I'm starting to like it. It doesn't seem like it stinks or needs as much maintenance as the regular ones. I am disappointed that they didn't include a tube that connects to this. The diameter of tube necessary is bigger than the tube of the gravel vacuum that I have and wanted to use. I'm going to have to search for and find one that connects properly.

I run a fluvial 407 in my 75 gallon tank for my turtle. Having a smaller filter running along with it is just for peace of mind and my turtle likes the waterfall flow of water that HOB filter have. This one isn't hook on back, but it still provides the waterfall, and I plan on using filter pads cuts down to fit inside the cartridge when this one gets replaced in a week. What drew me to this one in particular is the SmartClean feature. Being able to just use the filter to take some water out instead of pulling out my python for my weekly smaller water changes has been awesome. I only use it for my smaller water changes, not my 50% water changes, since I have this filter positioned at the top of my tank, and I just don't want to put it through that much work for a larger job.The filter itself is great quality, matching most of the better filters I have. The water discharge spout moves up and around smoothly, and the filter seems very well made. The suction cups are strong, just had to make sure I really pressed against my aquarium glass when I installed it. The flow is steady and my turtle is loving his new waterfall in his home!I'd recommend it. It's a great quality filter, but I'm not utilizing it as my main filter, and would only recommend it for hatchling turtles in 10 gallon tanks (because of the high waste turtle's produce) if you don't plan on using it as a companion filter like I am.

I'm used to buying low-flow and turtle filters for my paludariums/shrimp tanks, so I want to add a cautionary note that this filter is definitely NOT for shrimp tanks: the intake grate is wayyyy too large and there's not an easy way to add a sponge. (Of course I will anyway, it's just going to require a bit more work.)I also want to advise buyers to be aware of a little bit of dynamic pricing at play. At the time I requested this filter for review (October 16, 2023) it was being offered for $25.70 USD. On the day I am writing this (November 8, 2023), it's now being sold for $37.52. The price has gone up almost 12 bucks in less than a month, with several intermediate steps. I understand the temptation for sellers to underprice their items to get more attention for their release, and then slowly raise them to their intended "real" price, but considering the way dynamic pricing is used on this site to triple the price of a sweatshirt if it happens to be a popular color, I think it should raise customer suspicions a bit to see so many price changes within such a short time. I recommend using the browser extension Keepa to track stuff like this. Having aquarium and tank-centric pets and plants is already an expensive enough hobby without dealing with that kind of price volatility.Overall, the aesthetics and the functionality are on point and the setup is easy. It looks like a pack of 3 replacement filters (Zilla EcoRenew Medium) are about 10 bucks. That's not bad at all considering you only need to change it once a month and how much water this can filter during that time. Carefully read the size and flow rate stats, as this isn't going to scale down well for nano tanks.

These filters work great but break very quickly. One lasted 3 days. I had others make it 2 week.s I had to return 4 of these in 3 months. They do not last.

This pump from Zilla arrived looking like it had been run over. This is in no way the company's fault but they put the shipping label right on the product box and somewhere along the way the box opened up and the instructions were taped to the bottom of the box with packing tape. Despite it's very rough journey here everything was still usable. The pump is super easy to install inside the tank with suction cups. It's very quiet and has a peaceful effect. The best part is that the pump works great and Turquoise's tank looks nice and clean. I'm also so happy that they sell inexpensive refills. Thank you Zilla! Oftentimes, refills are very overpriced or they don't even sell them. I would highly recommend this product. It works great and offers affordable refills. Five stars!

The filter comes with instructions and assembly is pretty logical. Every piece has an easily recognized orientation to fit in. While the four suction cups are acceptable for my use, I didn't find the hanging clip in the product box that the instructions implied would be included.The filter is relatively quiet, making only a little bit of hum, and it does appear to efficiently move water. I do wish the outflow grate was a little more secure as it kind of loosely sits on a couple shallow hooks around the opening. The grate cells are also a little large and won't stop small fish/invertebrates from getting caught. I do like that this filter is designed also to act as a water change pump.
