What our home builder should have used
This is a very high quality, completely serviceable check valve that can be cleaned orrebuilt if necessary.The tank-less hot water heater that the builder of our new home installed has not beenreliable from the get go. This is my first experience with a tank-less in my 70 plus years.It is a quality unit with a built in re-circulation pump to keep hot water reliably at the faucets.Pumbers and homeowners say is a dream come true. However, for us it was a nightmare!Cold showers became all to common. The utility sink faucet was only getting cold water at timeson the hot water side, even though the hot water heater was on and sending hot water into thehot water pipes. I realized that the problem was in the re-circulation system.I told my wife to hire a plumber to fix the problem. She said, "You are my plumber.Get to work!" The plumbing contractor that originally installed the system solderedthe cheapest check valves available to keep the cold water out of the hot water plumbing.By installing heavy duty Eastman 20047LF isolation ball valves and a Elkhart Products33582 102-3/4 Pipe Union, I can now service this quality check valve if necessary. My guessis that it will never have to be serviced; but at least now I have the choice.Update 7/4/23.. even though I have a great whole house filter and treat the Magnesium and calcium with a non salt conditioner, my hot water heater may be cooking out these minerals into 1mm stones that got caught under both of the dual check valves. Alas, the cold shower happened again. However, with this set up I had the valve removed, cleaned and reinstalled in under 30 minutes. This is the only check valve I will use now, no matter what happens.Update 9/3/2023. I installed the High Temperature Hot Water Filter, KleenWater HotSpin Filtri, Self-Cleaning Screen For Dirt Sediment Sand Silt and Grit Entrapment, 90 Micron. bought through Amazon.Now my hot water heater problems are history; but I can't be the only person with this problem. Hopes this helps some other poor sucker with one of these tankless water heaters.
