Works well, offers great control over sharpening process

I have been using a pull through disc sharpener for many years and have been very happy with it. Sharpened edges didn’t seem to last very long, but easy to restore. Saw a few reviews for this model, and despite some negative reviews, went ahead and purchased. Absolutely love this approach - provides more feel/control than the pull thru sharpener and the different discs let me customize the work a bit more.A few tips based on the reviews I’ve seen here; 1) the sharp edge of the knife blade goes up! Watch the videos… 2) you dont have apply a lot of force to get a good result, especially with the coarse (320) disc. 3) attach the knife to the base in the middle of the blade, that way the block is supporting the blade for most of the sharpening stroke, with only ~1-2 inches of tip protruding - less bending of the blade tip this wayOverall very happy with the purchase - sharpened edges are definitely a bit sharper and although I’ve only used it for most knives once, edges seem more durable as well.

Knife sharpener

Great knife sharpener. The magnets on it to hold the knife in place are very strong. I’ve tried a bunch of sharpeners and this one beats them all. Very easy to use to!!

Take it slow, nice if you don't/can't do sharpening stones

First off, the more common thing a knife needs is to be *honed*, not sharpened. Honing a knife involves reshaping the existing material to be more knife-like again, since using a knife deforms the edge over time. After enough deformation you might need to remove material in order to get it honed properly, and that's sharpening. This comes with three "discs"; "low grit", "high grit", and ceramic. The low grit is for quickly removing material on knives that either are at the wrong angle or are seriously dull. The high grit is for gently removing material from knives that are starting to dull but for which honing is not as effective as it once was, or for preparing the edge for honing after using the low grit. The ceramic is for honing the edge once it has been sharpened. You will primarily be using the ceramic disc for maintenance of your knives.I have a fantastic electric knife sharpener with a honing section, but it's large, heavy, and loud. This little thing gets equally impressive results with only slightly more time put into it; we're talking like an extra 30 to 60 seconds. The fact the magnetic knife holder also acts as a storage for the two discs not in active use is a wonderful space-saving and organizational feature. As long as you don't go fast when using it, you should be able to the disc in contact with just the edge. You don't want to accidentally touch the discs to other parts of the knife or lose contact with the edge, as neither of those situations will help you sharpen and/or hone your knife. But again, just go slow and steady and you'll get there with barely any increase in effort/time.It's almost as expensive as an electric sharpener though, and more error prone, so it's probably not worth it if you can get/want to get/don't mind having an electric sharpener.Everyone will tell you that you gotta learn how to use sharpening stones but no, you don't, this is going to be great for like 99% of people cooking at home. Especially since you hone the edge far more frequently than you need to actually sharpen it. Using a honing rod or similar is extremely error-prone and can actually ruin your edge/knife if you don't learn how to use it properly, and so this device helps ensure there's minimal chance for error and that it is far more difficult to mess up the knife.

Works as advertised.

A sharp tool is a good tool. Hand sharpening has become more difficult for me for several reasons, but the sharpener wheel and guide are very simple to set up and use. The magnetic holder for aligning the correct blade angle is a smart idea. While i do wish there was an even finer grit, the two-step process with the honing rod does an excellent job and it is quick.

Very awkward to use with big deep knives.

Works but awkward to use if the height of the knife edge is not at the same level as the disk sander. For big knives like a Chinese cleaver, the rolling disk sander has to be put on a higher level surface in order to sharpen the edge of the knife being held by the magnet block.

I really like this, super easy to use and quick

I've got a lot of Work Sharp products, from the Ken Onion belt sharpener to the pocket sharpener and a few others. I had been eyeing a rolling sharpener and when Work Sharp came out with one I had to have it. I love this thing. Not to large to store, super easy to use, and quick. Perfect for kitchen and medium to large knives, but some pocket knives with smaller blades may work better with one of their other models. It only takes a few seconds to touch up an edge to super sharp before cutting up - well, whatever you are cutting.

Doesn't get knives very sharp

No matter what I did I could not get any knives to what I considered sharp. The roller wanted to vear off as I moved it back and forth. The magnetized part made it harder to do smaller knives.I wound up returning. My hunt for a better knife sharpener continues. So far I have tried this, the spyderco sharpener, and the lanksy sharpener (that was a total piece of garbage).
